The question is, "Do you trust Joe Gibbs?" Has Joe Gibbs given any reason for us not to trust him? Has he given us reason to question him....of course! He always has. Every coach will eventually give us reasons to question their decisions. However, it's the big picture that alot of us are looking at. While some may question Gibbs more than others, most of us have to agree that Joe Gibbs makes his decisions based on what he feels is best for this team, and what gives us the best opportunity to win. We can only judge that by what we see on television. We're not there in the locker rooms or on the practice field. Therefore, there is no reason why the coach would not be trusted. He's there with the team constantly.....we're not! That fact, coupled with his accomplishments make it a no-brainer to trust Coach Gibbs. The thing about the bandwagon is simply this: whether out of pure emotion or sincere thoughts, several have displayed down right hatred of the coach. Even one guy stated he wanted Joe Gibbs and Mark Brunell killed. I do believe those types of people only see the small portions of the picture, and refuse to take a step back and see the entire picture. Those of us who are on the "Bandwagon" are simply there because we trust Joe Gibbs and right or wrong, we'll stick with the team and go down in flames if that is what happens. That's isn't to say we're never going to question Joe Gibbs or assume he's right 100% all the time. It just simply means, we're not going to be some type of weak minded fan who throws in the towel half way through the season or even as stupid as it has sounded to me....to throw in the towel after the first game of the season - a WIN at that! To me, that's not enjoying the game of football!

Obviously a huge difference between week 2 and week 7. Only one game is played by week 2....it's impossible to judge an entire season based on what happens in week 1. That's what people are doing now, and in my opinion, I think it's a knee-jerk reaction...it's just senseless. At least by week 7, the team has played several games, but even then, nobody knows how the season is going to end up. Reminds me back in the mid 90's, when we went 8-1, only to end the season at 8-8. Knowing this, people dumping on the team after week one is laughable. :cheeky-sm

Re: Do you trust Gibbs?
First, let's clear up what exactly the word "trust" means:
From Merriam-Webster's: Main Entry: trust Function: verb transitive senses 1 a : to commit or place in one's care or keeping : ENTRUST b : to permit to stay or go or to do something without fear or misgiving 2 a : to rely on the truthfulness or accuracy of : BELIEVE b : to place confidence in : rely on c : to hope or expect confidently 3 : to extend credit to Now for the question: Do I "trust" Gibbs? 1a : Based purely on Gibbs's success in his first tenure as Redskins' coach (which I witnessed and which made me a Redskins fan to begin with), I was initially-- and enthusiastically-- willing "to commit my beloved Redskins to his care" this time around as well. However, the poor manner in which I feel he's handled the entire Brunell/Ramsey situation (from the very beginning of Brunell's acquisition process, to this latest QB switch), his ineffectiveness as both an offensive strategist and head coach last season, the poorly disguised and executed maneuvering to draft Jason Campbell, and other miscues have eroded much of my trust of Joe Gibbs in this regard. 1b : After experiencing the excruciating pain of watching Gibbs's offense last season, it's difficult for me to watch it this season "without fear or misgiving" that I could very well see more of the same this season. Sure, there have been some changes in the playbook, Jansen's back in the lineup (if not entirely healthy!), and many of the players have had another year to learn the offense. What concerns me is not so much the plays in the playbook or the players executing them, but Gibbs's conservativeness in orchestrating those components, and his inability to effectively counter today's aggressive defenses with a punishing offense. Every time I watch the Redskins these days, I'm fearful of what will transpire, and most of that fear is a product of Gibbs's performance over the past 18 months. 2a : It's difficult for me "to rely on the truthfulness or accuracy of" what Gibbs says or does these days [see "Ramsey, Patrick"]. 2b : It's difficult for me "to place confidence in" Gibbs as a coach these days [see "2004 regular season record"; "2004 offensive statistics"; "Brunell, Mark"] or "rely on" him to do what's best for the team. 2c : Based on everything that's happened since Gibbs's return as head coach, I generally don't "hope or expect confidently" that Gibbs will lead the Redskins to victory on any given Sunday [see "2004 regular season record"]. 3 : When Gibbs became head coach of the Washington Redskins for the second time, most Redskins fans-- including myself-- were willing "to extend credit to" Gibbs for his brilliant success with the team during the '80s and early '90s. However, even Gibbs himself has said that the past buys us nothing but fond memories. Since the recent past tells me "6-10", I'm not that fond of the idea of extending Gibbs any more credit. Can I change my mind? Absolutely. But Gibbs is going to have to earn back every bit of credit that I might give him in the future.

there's a huge double standard going on when it comes to Gibbs, his SuperBowls matter but somehow last year doesn't. BOTH matter. just because you only want to look at the good and dismiss the bad, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, doesn't apply now, or that you're a bigger fan. on the contrary, looking at, and discussing both the good and bad, means you're perceptive and accept the team flaws and all. that's a fan. Crisp, what you said made too much sense. beware the coming sarcasm asking you how many Superbowls YOU'VE won... |

I respect those who present their argument with well thought out posts...I'm refering to those who resort in "Gibbs needs to die" or "We suck" as their only argument.

Re: Do you trust Gibbs?
well questioning the QB decision in week2 doesn't mean i'm "throwing in the towel for the season" either. does that apply? you were quoting me when you said those things, hence the response.
thankfully, i don't see many "Kill Gibbs" or "We Suck" arguments on this board. i do see a lot of people take arguments that way however. |
