I think we're on the hook for the signing bonus, if the roster bonus is for being on the redskins roster, then we probably don't have to worry about that... the next team gets his current contract without the SB money and whatever bonuses the trade negates. though usually after a trade, a new contract is written, so the player ends up with a lot of money...

I agree with whoever said it's a long season, LaVar is going to get his chance again.

Maybe the team is gearing up to move on from LaVar and get out from under his monster contract. Or maybe Williams and co. are simply satisfied with the current lineup and LaVar hasn't earned his job back yet.

Either way it's hilarious how the media is running with this. I think we all just need to stay patient, hell LaVar is and he's the one that's directly effected by all this.

During Gibbs press confrence yesterday a reporter asked Gibbs a question about Lavar stating that Lavar had said he could see himself somewhere else in the near future, did anyone hear anything else on that quote by Lavar?

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm

This whole situation is really starting to piss me off. If he is not playing so that they can cut him because of the cap I will not watch a game the rest of the season. That is a piss poor way to deal with a contract situation. He has served his time with all the changes in personel on this team and always played his heart out no matter what our record was and now one of the most athletic OLB's in the league is sitting on the bench. Don't get me wrong Holdman is playing good but there is no telling what LaVar could be doing. If they are trying to cut him for cap issues then they should give him time on the field and at least make sure they are making the right choice. If he plays bad then pull him and even ask him to restructure or take a paycut. If he is not recovered no one will trade for him with his contract so big and if they cut him he won;t get the money he was going to get if he was the player everyone thought he was going to be, but if he is 100% healthy, like he said he is and no one has said him sitting is a health issue, there is no doubt in my mind he would again he a pro bowler.

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm

Their not going to cut him that would excalate his signing bonus of 11mil, to hit us in 2006, if we trade him we only get hit with a 2 mil in 2006, then the rest in 2007, so forget about releasing him, aint happening. Lavar still should have pretty good trade value, I would imagine there are still teams out there who haven't figured out that Lavar is vastly overated, and grossly overpaid.

i think it might be holdman's job to lose right now, not the other way around... and others will trade for him, because they'll get the contract with all the signing bonus etc removed, so it'll be much cheaper and he can be cut at any time on that team with NO cap hit, unless a new contract is made.

I Don't Think Any Player That Makes Three Straight Pro Bowls Is Overrated. Has Anyone Mentioned Lavar Is On His Fifth Coordinator In Six Years. He Was Injured Most Of Last Season, And Was Held Out Of Contact In Early Preseason. Maybe He's A Little Behind On The Learning Curve, If He's Really 100%, Lavar Will Be Back Soon, And Lookout!

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm

I read on ES that there was a quote by Bugel saying why he wasn't playing.

Basically that he needs to get back in the game and do what he's asked.

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm

People its personal. It always is with this organization. LaVar is being setup to be released in the offseason before July so we won't have to pay him the 6.5 mill he is due then. He is being frozen out. Simple as that. The PR slant will talk about his decline in June when we cut him. Soon after--he will sign with the Steelers for economical Rooney dollars and shine once again.
All I hear about is how he likes to freelance and is out of posiition. Are you telling me that he freelances more than Sean Taylor? And is prone to giving up more big plays like Sean Taylor? They are both of the same attacking mold--yet Taylor is starting and LaVar is sitting. I guess Sean Taylor is a better Redskin off the field right???
The bottom line is Gregg Williams and LaVar don't mix right now. Williams can talk about how he wants players to buy into his system--but you can't tell me that LaVar is harder to handle than Sean Taylor.

lavar needs to be starting, he's too good to be watching from the sideline's. our defense is doing great, but we lack that big play defender right now, other than sean taylor, lavar the next best person.

Re: Lavar on 980 @ 4pm

I dont blame him for being unhappy, he is one of the best defensive players on the team and I think he should be on the feild. Obviously, for reasons I dont know, hes not. If he honestly has no clue why he is not on the feild, and he dosent go up to a coach and ask "Coach, what do I have to do to play more." Then its just as much on him as the coach. I dont know, I hope he is on the field consistantly in a couple weeks. He's too good to take up time on the bench.

I guess that's true, the coaches don't really owe the players anything. I wonder if there's a lack of communication there on both sides, and if so, why they can't get it resolved.

We're probably just being impatient, but I hope that the organization doesn't lose sight of his value. If we can afford to keep him I'd love to have a guy who wants to be here around if we do start a new winning tradition here.

As for Lavar starting or not....whatever Williams thinks, I'll go a long with him. He knows a lot more than I do so I trust he'll make the right decision...

Arrington

I am absolutely preplexed by all the miscommunication being sent out by both the skins and Arrigton. I understand the principle of "packages", but out 130 defensive snaps the last two weeks, am I to believe that Arrington could only be in 5% of all the packages called? This is silly for anyone to believe as a real reason as to why he is not playing. Marshall and Washington from my take were probably in for 95% of the plays. Is there "play Arrington package" and the 95 others?

I saw the interview with Buges yesterday, and he came closest to stating some believable facts.

So what are the facts??? IMHO, I believe the skins realized that they don't need $11+M tied to one player, when that player is replaceable by a system. Secondly, I think what makes arrington so attractive to alot of teams is also the reason why he is not attractive to Williams/Lindsay. Arrington likes to do "his thing" instead of that of "system thing". He had problems with Marvin Williams and now he is having problems with another defensive master, who are all about the system not the individual. Thirdly, I don't think the skins like Arrington pointing fingers in the preseason about the skins playing him when he was hurt, or his demeaning the franchise about not honoring that "missing" bonus.

Having said that, if the skins plan to release/trade Arrington at the end of the season , I can NOT believe that he is not a better rushing defensive end that anyone else we have. Let's use him in that "package", and maybe he will go to 6% of the plays.

I hope this does not develop (if it hasn't already) into an ego thing.

my 2 cents...

Re: Arrington

We should all do what Joe Gibbs wants and stop the wild speculation. We will never know why they aren't playing him. That's not Gibbs's style. He keeps any internal dissent behind closed doors, because airing dirty laundry in public would "embarrass the Redskins," which he strictly forbids. For all we know, Arrington could have yelled at Greg Williams to go and *&^% his own *&^%( one day, and now Williams is still peeved. It could be anything. Who knows?

That's why the Redskins and Arrington are both taking the high road in all this, and not saying anything bad.
