Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Since it's already a certainty the other 2 are gone I'll pretend like it's all ok. I hope Doctson is healthy and legit.

I don't believe a swap for first rounders is at all out of the realm of possibility, but it's possible that the 49ers are willing to give the Redskins next year's first rounder and this year's second rounder - which would almost be like a first round pick. Throw in a third rounder either this year or next year, and I think Bruce Allen would bite on that. However, it's possible Kyle decides to go after Romo now that he's in the free and clear. He would be free, then to draft a quarterback and have that guy sit behind Hoyer and Romo for a year or so. That way, the 49ers still get a quarterback that can make an immediate impact, one that has won in the post season, and a solid backup in case Romo went down with injury. All the while having the future quarterback on the roster. That might be a more attractive move than to go for Cousins this year. And if things don't work out with Romo this year or they don't draft a quarterback (or both), then they can probably get Cousins next year without having to mortgage the future.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
From overthecap top qb's and APY
Player APY Andrew Luck $24,594,000 (3 playoff wins and 1st pick hype) Drew Brees $24,250,000 (SB win) Kirk Cousins $23,944,000 (1 and a bit playoff losses) Joe Flacco $22,133,333 (SB win) Aaron Rodgers $22,000,000 (SB win 17 playoff appearances) Russell Wilson $21,900,000 (SB win) Ben Roethlisberger $21,850,000 (SB wins) Carson Palmer $21,000,000 (1 playoff win ) Eli Manning $21,000,000 (SB wins) Philip Rivers $20,812,500 (4 playoff wins) This is just to say that if KC chooses not to accept an offer that has an APY of around 22M, (i get contract inflation) then I'm not going to fault the FO for not getting him signed. Even at 20M that's probably a legitimate point of where his talent alone puts him. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
@JasonLaCanfora
The Skins actually intend to pay Cousins off his franchise tag this year, unlike a year ago, and by July 15 that's likely to happen... SF will go with Hoyer and find a young QB thru draft or otherwise. If Cousins is a UFA in 18, sure, Kyle Shanahan loves him, but it's big if There were no trade talks b/n WSH and SF and likelihood of Cousins trade was always low, but Hoyer signing effectively totally scuttles it.. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
LaCanfora has not been a great source for Skins news, but maybe the bad blood has cleared some. That sounds like a rational post

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
If Rodgers deal was up he would get at least $30M per year. It's all about timing.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I agree with that, and KC deserves a good contract, my point was mainly about the FO and if KC chooses not to accept something that gives him more than 20M/apy then that is his choice not necessarily proof of a FO mess up.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Keim was on the radio about an hour ago. I think he said Kyle and KC have the same agent..... if true, it is a game of chicken, do the Redskins settle for a 2nd/3rd round pick, or play hard ball and try to get a first round pick plus ? SF could hope KC would be a true free agent in 2018....Washington should threaten to franchise KC again if SF low balls them.
Washington cannot let KC go and get nothing |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
NFL Network, NFL Media reporter Sam Wyche talked about what he was told by some who work at Redskins Park. Everything Im hearing from the folks in that building is that 'Cousins has made it clear he does not want to be there,'"*said Wyche. He wants to get to San Francisco and play for Kyle Shanahan."

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Here is the issue, all that believe Cousins is going to sign long-term in DC need to realize that it's a pipedream.
It now looks like a trade is a dream too. Dan Snyder is still meddling, no different from 2000. He refuses to trade with Kyle. Even if it insures that his team gets nothing. I really hate this owner. I wish the other owners of the redskins worked together to have him removed. He has destroyed this team.

1. He signs the tag and makes 24 million. If he doesn't sign it, he doesn't get paid. 2. He signs a long term deal by July 15th or he doesn't. If he doesn't he doesn't play and sits on the practice squad like the last QB to leave town. This basically ruins his market value next year. 3. We have a veteran QB that can win 4 - 8 games and is willing to be a bridge QB. 4. If the agent tries to play both sides, they let him know we can tag Kirk next year as well. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I agree, Redskins have more leverage than it seems. I would not rule out the possibility of tagging him at 34M. They may save themselves enough cap space to be capable of it.

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I agree. Even if he plays on the tag this year, do the transition tag next year for 2 1sts.
If a team loses their QB mid season - is a trade of KC possible mid-season? I'd assume he'd have to say okay to work out a LTD with the suitor. Would they have to pay a prorated portion of the franchise tag #? Would we eat all of his salary that year?
