Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

We will see. I don't think Allen is the answer but could be a serviceable backup long term . Smith- it is his choice, but he is not making a wise decision, but I get it from his point of view is not in the long term plans We will draft a QB in 2021. I don't see us winning more than 4 games this season. We don't have enough weapons and our O-line is suspect and a few defensive players forget how to tackle. Drew Lock in the second round would have a better pick for us than Haskins - could have taken Sweat in the 1'st or some one else...

Below are Kyle Allen's 2019 highlights:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdy59oeQhzg&t=191s

He seems to read defenses well and gets rid of the ball quickly. Just looks like he has good fundamentals and like the pocket presence. Think he will be an upgrade and I ask everyone to give this kid a real chance. It doesn't matter that he wasn't drafted. Was pretty impressed by these highlights honestly.

I wonder if Alex has a stronger relationship with Haskins or Allen?

If Haskins not working hard or preparing like he should for games...then he needs to sit.

The above article implies Haskins wasn't working as hard as possible. He looks super nonchalant in that recent practice video since his benching. Almost like he doesn't care. Rivera is not the coach that would roll with this. This qb change has me more rejuvenated for this year whether it's successful or not.

Now that he's in the pros, where everyone has tons of God-given talent, and needs to rely more on coaching to help him and he just doesn't know how to be coached.

Really hate that these little leaks are coming out. What's done is done no need to embarrass the guy publically. It's the same old smear tactic we've seen from this franchise time and time again.

Yeah hate the leaks too... so much for the culture change...

I'm also really having a hard time swallowing this whole "frustrated sideline" narrative... wasn't the sideline frustrated by the coach not trying to win games ?

Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

It seems like Scott and RR are very confident in Kyle so we'll see what he can do

Are they?

What coaches say publicly is usually not very reliable indicator of what they are thinking. The most recent example is the post game presser RR gave quickly followed by the benching

Or, do they just think he is the best guy on the roster and are talking up him and their decision to start him?

Hard to tell at this point. The only thing for sure is they have no confidence in Haskins.

I think most of the fans who really pay attention, members of this forum, probably share that opinion. Allen isn't the answer, just the best short term option of three.

If no Trevor Lawrence, I'd take Trey Lance.

Other possibilities at positions of need, PSU's LB Micah Parsons, Alabama CB Patrick Surtain, Oregon OT Penei Sewell

Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

“I’m always ready,” said Allen, who went undrafted in 2018. “If you look at my career so far, I’ve been in the league three years and I’ve started in at least one game every year. I started one my rookie year, the last game of the year. I think I started 12 last year and now this one. For me, it’s just always been a mindset of: be ready, and if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t. But if it does, at least you’re prepared for it. I always go into every game just ready to go in at any point. … For me, it’s just being ready to go and take advantage of your opportunity when it comes.

“I’m glad that we’re still in the playoff race. I think this is an interesting division this year. It’s been somewhat of a slow start, for I think everyone in the division. So, for us in the middle of the division right now with a chance to win on Sunday and give us a chance to get back on top of it — it’s a great opportunity.”
