I was watching the America's Game highlights on the 91 Skins. I paid close attention to the offensive plays that were run. All I gotta say is outdated my ass. Wasn't Gibbs 1 the first to start bunching 3 wr's to one side of the field w/ the Posse? I saw Rypien rolling out to the left and throwing back across the field several times. And vice versa. I saw play action passes that are run in today's game. I mostly saw 4 wr's go out on pass patterns. I saw some TE trap runs w/ Don Warren coming across the formation and killing people. So I'm not sure what all this outdated stuff is. I know Gibbs 2 seems more conservative. For what ever reason. So for that reason I'm glad Saunders is calling plays. Hopefully we will see a more explosive offense next year. |

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
One thing a HC has to do is command respect from his players. Norv will never do this when he walks in a room. He may be a great play caller and O/C but that's it. He will never be a leader of men. At least Joe still commands the respect from his players.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
It took Turner until his 6th year to take the Skins to the playoffs.
Gibbs did it in his 2nd year back. Turner is a joke as a NFL head coach. Gibbs is a Hall of Famer. Comparing the two isn't even worth the time. |

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
Amen to that! Let's start comparing Turner to Gibbs once he wins three Super Bowls. We all know that will never happen! It's absurd to say Turner is a better head coach than Gibbs at any point, heck he isn't even on par with Herm Edwards!

Three Super Bowls? How about three playoff games. There are not a whole lot of coaches that I would take Norv over.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
I'm not saying Norv is a great coach but of all the coaches the skins have had since 1993 (including Gibbs now) Norv is the best of a bad bunch. That tells you how bad this organization has been.

At the moment, that's like trying to compare a Knife wound to a gunshot wound. Which is worse? By the way, Norv is the gunshot wound.
Do you seriously contend that Norv is a better coach than Gibbs........ever?

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
Are you suffering from football fatigue? I think you need a break until draft time. Norv isn't even better than Marty since then. Since '93 I'd put Gibbs first and Shottenheimer second. Norv's third, at best. Although it isn't really much to brag about considering how inept the team has been in that time.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
I'm sorry, but that is one heapin' load of the smelly stuff. It took Norv nearly all of the 90's just to have one winning season. At least Gibbs brought us back to the playoffs in his second year back. Shotty would've probably had this team at least no worse than 10-6 if Snyder would've put his itchy trigger finger back in the holster after that first season. Norv wasn't the worse, but he certainly wasn't the best.
