Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
laws would be a great value pick and i think he'd probably be the 3rd best DT from this draft 5 years from now... dorsey might be worthwhile if he fell to 21 (which wont happen) since the contract (monetary) risk is small there... availability would always be a concern though, which isn't good.
honestly, i might take gholston as the first DE, he's the pure pass rusher, but long looks like another aaron kampman type monster. you're right either way, and long is a much safer pick. we won't get either though :/ the other long is such a solid OL guy too. i like harvey at DE, i like merling, i REALLY like cromartie (6'2" 4.33 38.5" vert, AND a playmaker) - just like the other cromartie, i think he's still very underrated, even as a first rounder. kenny phillips is another safety in the taylor/landry type of mold. fast, hits hard, first day starter. devin thomas has improved his stock enough that there's no way he'll be there at 53 (or whatever our pick is), otherwise i'd definitely take him. tracy porter would be a good CB in the 2nd, or maybe go DL wilth dre moore or laws if he gets talked up more. lots of OL talent at this pick too that be worth taking. |

It would be super sweet if our draft went like this: 1st: Dominique Rodgers Cromartie, CB, TSU 2nd: Quentin Groves, DE/OLB, Auburn ( I doubt he will make it this far, but the draft can unfold in many ways between now and April) 3rd: Jordy Nelson, WR/KR, Kansas State We'd be sitting pretty.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Why do you guys always neglect the O-line....sad face?
![]() I don't know about you but I don't want to become the Chiefs, and the main reason our offense has been in the top half of the league the past few years is good O-line play. I also don't like drafting Wideouts and as much as I like Jordy Nelson and Devin Thomas I don't trust them. Recievers that come out of the draft are a crapshoot, quality lineman are a lot easier to identify and draft in my opinion. I'm also scared of all the recent support for Cromartie. I think that the support for him is based on the performance of his cousin as well as his 40 time. I'd rather use the combine to make sure they're working hard, and don't have character issues. Remember Denver's pass defense struggled with Bly and Bailey at corner. Corner play doesn't mean what it use to IMO. Today I'm still looking for Albert to get drafted by us in the first round and I'm hoping to grab Dre Moore in the second. After which I would like to see us draft the best DE or DB. Of course if Jordy Nelson was there in the third round I wouldn't object. However right now I'm starting to shy away from Devin Thomas. From what I've heard a lot of his yards were on screen plays and his route running could still use a lot of work. For me I would take him in the third round if he was there, but I'm starting to think that someone is going to take him in the first round.

I'd keep an eye on Carl Nicks

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I'm inclined to ask why. Something tells me you know something we don't. And don't give me the creepy quote with a smiley face answer. Thats something OM would do.
Also is the guy willing to play G until a spot opens up at Tackle? EDIT: Shit, this guy is going to screw up my Mock Draft. A huge mauler with Dockery size and the versatility to play Tackle in a pinch. Reminds me of Shaun Andrews. However is he going to be available in the second round?

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I have a question for those that are saying we need to go after a cornerback high in the draft: name the starting CB's for the Giants...
I think it is a big myth that you need shutdown corners at both slots. You only need shutdown cornerbacks if you don't have a consistent pass rush from your defensive line. Look at what the Giants did to the Patriots with an aging Sam Madison (33 years old) and Aaron Ross (not exactly a household name) slotted at cornerback. I would also say that those who are lobbying hard for a "big wide receiver" are also off the mark. I think we need one but the top of the draft is when we need to find our horses - those guys up front that are going to just create havok on both sides of the ball. |

Also Smootsmack found some "tape" on Karl Nicks. Looks ok during the 1 on 1 drills, and about as good as you can in the helments only drill but the guy is a monster during the senior bowl, regularly throwing guys around like raggity Ann dolls. Wish I could find more then 30 seconds of footage on Brandon Albert. YouTube - NFL Huskers - 2008 Senior Bowl Cromartie-Rogers isn't as bad as I'm making him out to be, but as I said before we're neglecting young talent along the trenches. However if this guy gets drafted though I can get on board YouTube - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Senior Bowl

However the more I see these hybrid OLB types moving up draft boards the more I start to wish that we ran a 3-4. Then again the 4-3 has been good to us in years past.

Yeah, his stock is plummeting. I hope Derick Harvey falls to us in the first now, but I doubt it.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Well a guy like Derick Harvey would be fine if we didn't have Andre Carter. To be honest I don't mind if we take a speed rusher in round 2, especially if he has a frame where he can add more bulk (Daryl Tapp comes to mind. ~254 on draft day now 270 pounds). I'm currently lobbying for Brandon Albert but Smootsmack has recently turned my attention to Carl Nicks, which would be great because then we could use the first round to grab Phillip Merling, Kenny Phillips, or maybe even Rogers-Cromartie (though he's not my first choice) and still come out with a G/T type guy that could start next year and eventually take over for Jansen.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I like Branden Albert, but is he that much better than a guy like Roy Scheuning who could be had in the third? Jeremy Zuttah had a really strong showing at the combine, and he'll probably be around in the middle rounds.

Scheuning on the other hand I see as a guy on the same plain as say Casey Rabach. Where as Albert would be a younger Randy Thomas in my eyes. Nicks is similar in the versitilty and run blocking department but I don't know as much about him.

That being said, the YouTube clip you posted on Cromartie-Rogers is pretty impressive...still, if there is a great d-lineman available at that point I'd love to see us taking him. |

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Not to sound cheesy, but I may be forever impacted by my experiences in high school when we had a great set of skill players but the lamest, weakest line you can imagine. Our skill players were all brutalized over the season because they didn't have those lines protecting them.
I'm not saying the Redskins don't have a solid core there to start with, I'm just saying you build from the line out - and we have some age concerns across both lines. |
