Re: Landry is now a bust!
Laron Landry should be locked in a room for 3 to 6 months to watch film of Darren Sharper...and then he should be forced to restructure his contract and work for a whole lot less...and then he must be forever banned from doing anything whatsoever after a play.
...seriously, Sharper has been resurrected in New Orleans and it's a blast to watch.

It's not meaningless, just very, very close to it.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
I do not believe Laron Landry is a bust. His play has not improved in the past two seasons; that is for sure. But he has physical talent...
I suspect that he is not well used in many of the defensive coverages that the Skins run. Too often, he is the "guardian angel" of the defense sitting 25 yards off the ball looking to assist on pass routes to either side of the field. When the play demands that he come up to make a play, he often arrives out of control. I believe this is something that can be improved with better coaching/teaching/scheming. If Laron Landry and his agent were willing to renegotiate a reasonable long-term deal with another team, I'd bet the Skins could get a 2nd or a 3rd round pick and a conditional 5th for him. I doubt he would bring a first round pick tho. One more thing... Laron Landry was a lot better as the strong safety than he has been lately as the free safety. Maybe the Skins should put him back where he was more successful?

Re: Landry is now a bust!
The Skins are going to need a couple of "guardian angels" this week.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
he is still a terrible tackler. i dont care what position he is playing, he shouldnt be bouncing off of guys (avant). if he could tackle consistently then he would be fine. but his missed tackles give up big plays.

Big C:
You are absoltutely right; his tackling technique is terrible and it does leave the Skins vulnerable to big plays that did not have to be. However, I think at least part of that is lack of coaching and discipline imposed by the coaches...

Re: Landry is now a bust!
He goes in with his shoulder charge in trying to pop the ball loose but his angles are poor and timing is off. He will whiff those sort of tackles/plays 80% of the time, and leads to big plays since he is the last line of defense. I just hope he can settle for the less glitzy plays of just wrapping up the receiver and settle for a reception instead of trying to make a play.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
I think most of us compare our safties to a guy who may have been the best ever at his position. Laron is not an all pro, but he can play. He just needs to work on his fundamentals.
And he needs to remember he is not going to ever be Sean Taylor.

Re: Landry is now a bust!
If G. Williams was our D-coach Landry would be well on his way to being a top safety. Our safety's have regressed under "bend but dont break..stand 50 yards away from the line" Blache.

Although trading Landry will give us another problem to fill in; who would take over free safety if Landry is traded away, Horton and Doughty are not athletic enough.. There's a reason why Moore haven't played much.. |

Re: Landry is now a bust!
Regarding that #1 ranking against the pass, let's not forget some of the quarterbacks we've faced this year...
Manning (NYG) ranked #12 Bulger (STL) ranked #26 Stafford (DET) ranked # 20 Freeman (TB) ranked # 46 Delhomme (CAR) ranked #21 Cassel (KC) ranked #24 McNabb (PHI) ranked #19 Ryan (ATL) ranked # 18 Orton/Simms (DEN) Orton is #15, Simms is unranked Romo ranked #7 -- so far, the highest ranked So apart from Romo and maybe Eli Manning, we haven't exactly faced tough competition this year from opposing QBs. That changes this weekend, of course. |
