Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

I think we did a good job addressing a big need in the o-line last year with T. Williams. And one could say that a healthy Jammal Brown could set our team at the tackle position for the next 3 seasons (the LT position has been pretty much set for the rest of T. William's career).

We do need to address the interior line, however I think we could do that with later round picks (i.e. let's get the other Pouncey on the 2nd round, and maybe get a veteran center in FA). We also need to address the interior D-line, which I think we could have addressed by picking up T. Cody in the second round (trade down that is) or Cam Williams in the 3rd round; and we could have bee developing a true NT this year.

If Rex works out as an in-between guy, then we should go after a 1st round QB, let him develop and hopefully have ready to go when Rex gets the ax. Last offseason, I was campaigning for a tackle and we got it, now I feel we need to address the QB position.

Locker is actually better then I thought. The way he runs the offense is actually pretty impressive. Give him a year or two of coaching under Shanahan and we could have something special, especially with his ability to make plays off of play action.

Most are projecting him in the mid to late 2nd round. Knock on him is he doesn't wow you physically and he may be as good as he's going to be. I'd love to be able to trade down in the 2nd, add a pick and get Ponder

That would be an excellent pick. I hate FSU (Canes fan) but he has impressed me for 2 years now.

He has Peyton Manning-like intelligence too. I think he could figure out any system.

I still think McNabb will be back and starting. I really think this "demotion" is more about determining if Grossman is worth re-signing as a backup than it is about McNabb. Our playoff chances are shot, and Shanahan knows it's a rebuilding process, so he's getting a head start on season #2.

Locker...please no.

I for one think the Skins will go DT with the first pick, we don't have any pressure up front.

The 2nd pick will go towards a QB. If Rex does well in these next 2 games remaining in this season, watch for movement at the QB position.

I may be really, really wrong about this but Locker seems a little Shuler-ish for my taste. I don't see him looking down the field, don't see him reading the defense, it's one read and fling or one read and go. His 'speed' will get eaten up at the next level (see Smith, Alex) and I don't see any other elite tools.. Are you seeing the same thing or what's your scouting report?

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

The reason we need to take our quarterback in the first round (if not now, next year) is because it improves his odds at success. Last year, ravens, jets, chargers, colts, bengals, eagles, packers, etc all had first round quarterbacks. I am hesitant to take a wide receiver so high and risk getting burned, because that position is very renown for high round busts, and middle round steals.

Re: Who Will Be The Redskins 2011 Opening Day Starting QB?

I really think people need to forget about Luck. If he comes out, there's almost a certainty he'll go #1 overall. He's the best can't miss prospect of the last decade, and the top of the draft has qb needy teams everywhere except for Detroit. There's no way we get him even if he does come out, and he might not even come out because in recent interviews he's said he wants to try to win a national championship at Stanford and also get his degree before he leaves. There's no way Andrew Luck would fall all the way to where we'll be picking, and I doubt we'd trade up for him either.

The way I see it is, if Locker didn't do as well this year as last because his team wasn't as good, what does that say about him? He's only as good as his supporting cast. Last I checked, he wouldn't have a good supporting cast in Washington for a couple years.... If we are lucky.
