Right Guard: Chris Chester, a second round pick of the Ravens in 2006, now a third year player. Chester was garnering some first round talk in the days leading up to the draft, and was a Center at Oklahoma, but has found his niche as a Guard for the Ravens. Chester isn't and will never be Ben Grubbs, but he's versatile, which gives the Ravens two guards who can pull so that they can run plays either way, and is, like the rest of the line, strong in pass protection.
He can move to Center if the Ravens don't want to re-sign Jason Brown.

Redskins Prospectus: The Redskins, hopefully can use the late rounds of the draft in 2009 to find a Chris Chester type. Chester is good, but he's not Grubbs-good, and the dropoff from the Chester's of the draft, a 2nd round pick, to the say Jamey Richard (Colts) of the draft, a 7th round pick, is very, very small. When you take an interior OL player in the first two rounds, you want to get Grubbs, you don't want to get a Chester, or a Jake Grove (Raiders) who doesn't make pro bowls, those guys are a dime a dozen in the draft.

You also risk taking a player on the OL who isn't any good at all in the last few rounds, but I trust the college scouting department to get it right, and get us a guy who can start by his 2nd year in the league, like Chester.

So, I suppose this is my opinion on the signing. .

sounds like what shanny wants in a o lineman, i'm loving all the moves so far and can't wait to see this new d we have in the works.

god damn it's nice to be talking football again!

I basically would give the same scouting report to Will Montgomery as well. Chester is more athletic than Monty though, which probably makes a difference, particularly as he gets older.

There's no question he's a good scheme fit. Just a question over whether he's a quality starter or best served as a backup.

Bring in Davin Joesph. Get Orakpo even more riled up during practice.

Thats still looking pretty bad other than Trent Williams.

Hard to say right now. How a line gels together is key. Individual talent is one thing but how they learn to play TOGETHER is paramount. I'm not sure how good a cut back runner Torain is. He seems more of a straight gut, punishing type runner. This line tandem seems to be perfect for a back like ....Portis. May need to discover a good cut back runner in camp. anyone have ideas?

The only thing I think they are doing with Beck is use him to get through this year.....rebuild the other area's and get..........their guy before next season. I don't care WHAT Shannihan is touting, he does not....really believe that JB is the Skins francise QB.
like "stopgap"

Re: Chris Chester Signs

Redskins agreed to terms on a five-year, $20 million contract with G/C Chris Chester.
As they always do, the Redskins are overpaying for mediocre talent. Chester has struggled and eventually been benched anytime the Ravens tried to give him a long-term starting role. But the 'Skins are in desperate need of warm bodies on the offensive line and Chester fits the bill. He has connections to Redskins offensive line coach Chris Foerster, who spent three years with the Ravens between 2005-07.

Rotoworld
Rotoworld is a great source of up to date information but to believe what they say after the fact is like listening to drunken Dallas fans yammer all night. Their opinions are there own and they are heavily biased.

Re: Chris Chester Signs

Biased toward who? I'm just providing info that I didn't see posted. Everyone is acting like this guy is going to be great, but there's nothing really that shows he's anywhere near worth the money he got. I'm hoping for the best, just like the rest of us, but at the same time, this does look a little like Danny boy being Danny boy.

Re: Chris Chester Signs

I never pay any attention to the "analysis" on Rotoworld. It's kind of like Wikipedia, just about anyone can post anything on there and they do.
