Re: Week 1 - Post-game Thread

Absolutely Cousins was the best we’ve had since Rypien! I just watched the game agian .. we could have won .. there are 5 plays that changed the game .

1- missed facemask call ( offset by horrible pass/fumble against LA)..wash
2-missed FG ( made longer by penalty)
3-Gibson fumble .. gave them TD
4-punt on 4th down ..essentially ended game.. (the 15 yd penalty against Humphries was huge)
5-D giving up 3rd &16

So a questionable coach call, bad officials, penalty, turnover, And D not making any stops late

Any ONE of those go our way and we could have won..I was mad that we lost but as bad as D played we still had a real chance ..

Holding the Chargers to 20 points or less is what you would have hoped to do. They did that, even with gifting LA a touchdown by coughing up the ball on the 4 yard line.

The fact is, you're not going to win many games in this league if you only score 16 points. For me, this loss falls on Turner and the offense.

Anyway, 50% of the league will be 0-1 after tomorrow. It's one game.

True, and the Giants and Dallas lost which helps. The Eagles beat the hapless Falcons who may not win a game this year. Winning today sure would have been nice though.

Re: Week 1 - Post-game Thread

I don't know if was just me but with Fitzpatrick in there the offence looked exactly like last years. The hope was that with a better QB it would somehow be much better. But I cannot see it. I had no confidence they would get a first down, let alone score in the red zone. Things only started to get better once Heinicke started to improvise when under pressure. It is early, but after so many years of losing there is it seems always more heightened expectation and enthusiasm at the start of the season, "this year we will be relevant", so the let down when they revert to form is so much the greater.

You are largely correct, in fact after the first drive, which being the first drive of the season you could excuse, you could then plausibly argue that the defense limited a great young quarterback with very good receivers to 6 points. You could also argue that the offense being inept allowed them to dominate the time of possession battle which tired our defense
.
However, the bottom line is that when the game was on the line with only a 4 point lead we let them run out the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter without putting up a fight.

To be fair Jason Wright covered that quick - supposedly it's rainwater.

Still a terrible look for that to be happening with fans in the stands.

Very reasonable take - couple things I disagree on. This offense is not good enough to win games when the d is not having a good day. And 14/18 on third downs - which ties the single game record for most third downs converted for an opposing team at Fedex - is a bad day for the D.

Week 1 - Post-game Thread

As I said in the gameday thread we did not score enough points to win. Our defense also choked in pressure situations. Drives after scores, third downs. Basically both sides of the ball let us down. So did Ron by punting the ball at their 40 with six minutes left down by 4. That is awful. So did Scott Turner - every time I watch this guy call a game I ask myself if he would be in the league without his last name - resounding no.
The only thing we are clinging to right now is “it was game one, and they are a good team”. They also are playing game one and traveled across the country. What will the excuse be when we lose to the Giants? Because we are going to lose to the Giants.

One more thing….our oline is shit. I had a very bad feeling about it going in. So is our secondary. They looked like chickens with their heads cut off. Completely confused. Our coaching staff is not very good. Unfortunately it is the best we can ever hope to get here. It is not really a mystery as to why we are stuck in a perpetual cycle of poor to mediocre play.

My hopes were up (as always) because I figured if last years team could win 7 this team could win 10. However in the back of my mind I knew this year’s schedule was tougher, now throw in Fitz injury- doesn’t sound like a little injury (its the hip and he is older) Leno not looking like any sort of protection and oh boy. I also said more than once that if we lost to the Chargers we were in for a long year with 8 wins being our ceiling. I think 6-7 is more realistic.

Charles Leno looks like garbage and got our starting QB killed.

Nobody talking about how Notevenclosekins changed the game for the worse again. I mean how bad can someone be and seemingly not ever have their job security threatened?

What QB would come to the WFT. We are a qb injury factory. I don't know the stats but our starting qbs must get injured at a way higher rate than other teams.

Rainwater? Are they storing it? Was a pretty sunny day yesterday.
