Pass the Kool Aid - 2024 Season Preview

Man, while we didn't get a lot for Chase, I am fine w/ the trades. To come out of the trade deadline with 2 additional picks in the 1st 3 rounds is solid. Harris got ahold of the team so late, this is year 0, its the 1st pancake you toss out.

Next year we get:

1. The first true year of new ownership
2. A GM that will be hired with plenty of time to develop a free agency and draft plan
3. A head-coach that can actually move his arms
4. Top 5 cap space
5. 9 draft picks

Give me the kool-aid. Next year will be A LOT more fun than this year.

Yup. This is and has, since our victory over the mighty Cardinals, been a transition year. A transition to a place free of that fucking douche bag Snyder. I am super excited for the future.

I hope Sam continues to impress. Would make the transition waaaay easier if we have the quarterback of the future already on the roster.

Look how the Lions upgraded their team last draft

Round 1, Pick 12 — RB Jahmyr Gibbs.
Round 1, Pick 18 — LB Jack Campbell.
Round 2, Pick 34 overall — TE Sam LaPorta.
Round 2, Pick 45 overall — DB Brian Branch.

All these guys have had big time impacts on the team. Remember we passed on Brian Branch who been playing at a pro bowl level, exact same position type as Quan Martin who been a bust so far

It can be done, and it helps when you already have a good QB. I think we do. Also, I can't help but wonder if better coaches would get more out of these players who were drafted, Martin, Forbes, Davis, etc.

I think it is a combination of both personnel decisions and coaching. When you take the wrong player and don’t coach him up it can lead to seasons being over in October.

Right after the game ends to the Cowboys on Week 18, I want Rivera and JDR to be summoned up to Harris' suite. This should be all that needs to happen (don't even need words):

I have come around to the idea that it's now too late to sack the coaches without a possibly devastating effect on the team. We don't have an Antonio Pierce, so without a clear replacement, we're better off waiting until week 18. Mores the pity.

I don't know what good it would do to fire them now other the brief satisfaction of doing so

My guess is Harris lets RR retire which means a new coaching staff and JDR will just file out with RR.

For what is worth RR in the past 4 years has dealt with DS and cancer, he deserves a decent send off. He generally looks and acts like a class act, unlike say Urban Myers

The only coach really in question as too what to do with him is EB

Your are correct, of course it speaks volumes for the quality of the coaching staff Ron has assembled. Outside of Chris Harris before he left I don't any of our staff have been in consideration for coordinator positions on other teams. I think the failure to adequately replace Harris is the catalyst for how our defence had gone from top ten last year to bottom of the pile this year. Secondary is garbage despite significant draft resources being spent. I wonder whether Harris would have signed off on drafting those guys.

Re: Pass the Kool Aid - 2024 Season Preview

Go get Tee Higgins this offseason. He may not stay in Cincinnati and is exactly what Howell needs: a 6' 4", big bodied, 1B-type receiver who's only 25 years old and will line up his prime years with Howell's.

Our WRs have consistently failed to beat man coverage in the short time our OL gives them to win routes before Sam has to get the ball out this year. We need a big receiver with a larger catch radius who will also be easier for Sam to see.

Terry and Higgins as our 1A/1B with Jahan in the slot solidifies the WR corps and we can go get a TE in the draft.

I tend to agree. A rookie with the same traits would likely be bad use of a high pick, even if he could come in a produce from day 1. Brown is likely #4 WR or gone, and Samuel is likely out too. Besides his injuries have robbed us of a lot of his potential. We need a solid Art Monk type #2.

We also have to consider the possibilty that a new DC will want to go back to a 3-4 scheme which may mean trading/ cutting a significant amount of the current defensive roster.

This would honestly be the best off-season possible to transition back to a 3-4. We don't have any DE's on this team that absolutely have to be on this team next season that would keep us from transitioning. 3-4 wouldn't work with Chase or Sweat, but they're gone. The cupboard is pretty much bare on defense to start over and do whatever you want. Just can't wait for a real GM to be hired and for Rivera/JDR to be fired.
