Cuts begin/roster moves

Wide receiver Marcus Kemp is among the early cuts in Washington.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Commanders are releasing Kemp as they make their way down to the 53-player limit.

Kemp signed with the Commanders in March and caught one pass for five yards during the preseason. Kemp has spent most of his career with the Chiefs and appeared in 57 games for the team since the start of the 2017 season, including their Super Bowl LVII win over the Eagles.

Most of Kemp’s playing time has come on special teams and he has four career catches for 42 yards.

Ben Standig of TheAthletic.com reports that Commanders have also cut linebacker Ferrod Gardner.

Re: Cuts begin

Lots of guys no one has heard of cut..... tomorrow is when the interesting stuff starts. For instance

JP Finlay on X (TAFKAT)

On Commanders roster cuts from @BMITCHLIVE30: "I think a veteran guy will get released and they'll keep a younger, cheaper option on the D-Line...Youre talking Casey Toohill and James Smith-Williams, they were playing deep into the 3rd quarter, 4th quarter of that preseason game"

According to Keim they might keep them all and go with 4 LB’s

Re: Cuts begin

I think they will go with 4 LB regardless, whether that is to keep 11 DL, DB or OL it is the usual/obvious position to gain a needed roster spot

Re: Cuts begin

I was thinking that if they continue to include more 5 man fronts, and with the injuries to Mathis and Allen, it is sensible that they keep 11 DL, question is does an extra DT fill that position.

Re: Cuts begin

A more interesting release this early. Giving him a chance to catch on elsewhere and/or not making the practice squad?

Dang...all that kid does is ball out every time he plays...but they just don't like him for some reason. Hope he gets picked up somewhere he can get on the field.

They like him, it's just a deep RB room

Sucks for him but he'll land somewhere else pretty quickly
