i remember when he was hired and his brother Jon Gruden said something along the lines of "just wait and see, he'll make a much better head coach than i ever dreamed of being" (paraphrased) . . . i am starting to think that he was right on this assessment as IMO Jay is growing leaps and bounds each year . . . i hope to have him and Cousins her for a long time.

Him and KC have what it takes to win a Superbowl with this passing attack. A lot like when the Saints won, or even Manning and the Colts. They both won championships through the air. We just need to bolster the defense a little bit and sure up our run game. Hopefully Fat Rob is the guy but whayever. I am very curious to see how this potential playoff run unfolds, but as of right now our HC/QB air attack is second to nobody.

Can't can anyone. For one thing,
Gruden and co have delivered. Yeah the defense is mediocre, but the personnel are hacks or rooks for the most part sans Norman and Kerrigan. Next point is, who are you going to get to replace
Gruden? Rehire Norv? We need a
HC that is going to stick around and entrench a winning system. Barry gets a pass until we land a stud DT or two, plus a run stopper LB.

Yes, extend Gruden for sure. I agree that Barry should get another year because his cupboard is bare. We need upgrades at DL, ILB & S at a minimum before he can be fairly evaluated.

Nope, guy might lead us to b2b playoff seasons for the first time in 25 years but we shouldn't extend him. I agree that I would look at upgrading from Barry but I won't let that hold me back. Also I reserve the right to change my opinion if our stud o-coordinator leaves after the season and he hires someone who's the Barry of offense coordinators to replace him lol.

Truth is we are loaded at offense not so much On the D side..and the results show it. Barry has done well with the talent but its time to sign cousins, hope that Doctson is for real and load up on the D!! The real pressure is going to be on who to keep and for how much..we will see about the front office this offseason.going to be interesting..for now we need to win 4 out of last five! Gruden is doing fine ..i would extend him for sure.

I agree. Doctson better stay healthy, but
I still would look for another wide out even if we sign a UFA.

I would flip that thinking around a bit and ask you if you think Joe Barry has shown any ability to elevate the defense beyond its talent level?

I have seen no such evidence, meaning it will take top 5 talent to generate a top 5 defense. By the same token he doesn't have this group underachieving.

So I conclude he's "meh".

If you think there's a better, no brainer D Coordinator candidate on the market this offseason, you have to make the move. Super Bowl winners manage to get more than the sum of their parts. So far Barry hasn't shown that ability.

I do agree he doesn't have players playing better than their abilities. Look at both Philly and Dallas, Philly had the talent, but underachieved. New coach comes in and they play great. Dallas doesn't have the talent, but their coordinator putting them in position to do well.

One area Gruden needs to improve on is his game management skills. They're sub par at best.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?

The best franchises have stability in the front office, coaching staff, and especially at QB when they find a competent one. The Redskins seemingly have stability at all three, so I hope that Gruden is extended and Cousins is given a long term contract. It's just a shame that they didn't pay Cousins last offseason, because he will cost a lot more against the cap now.

I'm not saying he's a Wade Phillips, but he's not the same 'ole 0-16 guy he was in Detroit either.

Tied for 7th in the league in sacks with Kerrigan, Murphy & Smith. Anyone one of them having a stellar year in your mind? Outside of Baker, nobody is getting an internal push. Losing Gallete late was a big blow, but it just proves our depth still needs work.

Tied for 4th in Forced Fumbles, I'll take that about every year.

Rather than having to break in a new defense (again), I'd like to see just a few upgrades...add 2 DL, an ILB and a Safety.

Did you seriously feel good having Golston/Hood/Ricky Jean as front liners with Baker? I sure didn't.

IMO, if we add just four athletes, who are a tad faster & who tackle just a bit better, I have no doubt we bounce up to become a top 10 defense with Barry.

At Baltimore, vs Philly, and vs Minny I think that Barry showed he could get more bang for his buck for sure. We absolutely dominated Philly on defense. Held Minny to a big goose egg in the second half.

McVay getting a head coaching gif would be a sign we have a good coaching staff here. I can't recall the last time an assistant coach, with the Skins, was sought out for the position?
