Interesting tidbit on Marty/Danny

From the Post, cool to see there's no hard feelings there:

San Diego Coach Marty Schottenheimer, the former Redskins coach who was fired by owner Daniel Snyder after the 2001 season, announced Wednesday that his son, Brian, the Chargers' quarterback coach, underwent successful surgery for thyroid cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Marty Schottenheimer, who was dismissed in Washington after declining to cede personnel authority, said Snyder recommended the doctor who treated his son. "It was Dan who had the same experience several years ago,'' Marty Schottenheimer told the North County Times. "Dan was very reassuring to me about this, and the way it would go."

I also found that very interesting. Danny seems to be a good guy; he just seems to have trouble giving up control. This was a good thing to do, and for a coach he fired, no less. I'm sure this won't make the national media.

Wow!! That's really cool to hear. Just goes to show how the media creates these daliy soap operas that we take for fact! Just so they can have somthing juicy to right about.
I didn't even know Dan and Marty talked anymore! I would have guessed Schottenheimer didn't really like Snyder from what I have read! And the way he was shown the door! I have to give Danny boy his props for this one!!

Coaches understand it's a business....you're hired and eventually you're fired. Good to know in this case neither man took it personal.

Marty knew the kind of situation he was getting in to, but as we all know $$ talks.

It was a bad fit from the start. Danny listened to his critics who said he needed a 'football guy' in charge but in the end he realized he's just not happy sitting back and letting someone else run the show.

Riggo44, I've seen several of your posts now, and I think you use more exclamation points than I've ever seen. One at the end of every sentence, and sometimes more!!!

If I own a business, I want to have a large portion of the say-so in it. Obviously I hire people who's ideas I respect, but in the end it's my call.

Football is a business.

I heard Danny and Marty had a bet about Jeff George not coming back to football after he was cut. I never heard if the loser paid up.

I think George was signed last year or the year before last. Cant rembember who signed him. I dont think he played and I think he was signed like half way through the season.

Edit: Just checked his jeffgeorge.com and he signed with the Seahawks back in 11/02
