Re: Offseason: Around the NFL

Adding an extra game to the season makes no sense.

I would much rather add an extra bye and get another week of football. In fact I'd be happy to add 2 more byes and extend the season even further personally.

I still think this 17th game talk is just a bargaining chip the league can use to get what it really wants.

We will see. Players are supposed to vote on the agreement, including a 17 game season, soon.

Apparently, the NFLPA voted 6-5 NOT to recommend the approval

The 17th game is the only bargaining chip the NFLPA has. That and the fact that the owners want to get this done soon.

I think the NFLPA leadership made that vote, but it is supposed to go now to the NFLPA team reps. I think some of the changes, such as an increase in the minimum salary (by 100k) is going to convince the masses.

If the leadership is divided, I agree with you that the body of players will look at what is in it for them. But the team reps vote next and that will be far more telling as I think the team reps explain it to the players en masse.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL

The New York Giants have released linebacker Alec Ogletree, a team captain during his two seasons with the team.

The team also said it had cut linebacker Kareem Martin.

Ogletree, one of the league's highest-paid inside linebackers over the past two years at $10 million per season, became a liability in pass coverage and saw his playing time diminish.

Ogletree, who turns 29 in September, was one of general manager Dave Gettleman's first major acquisitions with the Giants. They thought Ogletree could be plugged into the middle of the defense and make a significant impact after being acquired from the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 for two draft picks.

He played in 13 games each of the past two seasons. He had 80 tackles, a sack and an interception last year. He had 93 tackles, a sack and five interceptions in 2018.

Hard no from me. Linebackers who cant cover are dime a dozen.

Agreed, 2100 players vote, around 600-700 make over 1million base salary. The rest will look at the plusses in the CBA.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL

So the CBA vote is a hot mess.

Okung is suing the NFLPA through the NLRB for even bringing the vote to the players after the executive committee voted not to recommend it. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...int-nflpa-nlrb

The NFLPA said players cannot change their vote after "enough had expressed interest in changing them" for the player reps to bring up a call for it.

and the NFLPA pushed the vote deadline back to Saturday in order to give players more time to look over the package.

That last one puts Dallas in a real bind with Amari Cooper's situation, if they want to double tag Prescott and him, they could have it pulled out from under them a few days before FA opens.

Re: Offseason: Around the NFL

Seems like they should vote on the new CBA .... an off season before the old one expires. I honestly thought this offseason would be under the old/existing rules for like a phase in period regardless of whether of the new CBA is agreed to.

To have the voting be done right before you intend to implement the new CBA right before the start of FA and during the tag decision period ... seems like its courting disaster.
