Imagine if the Redskins had drafted Brett Favruh too, we coulda won many championships by now!

Don't mean to rag on you R4E, but imagining what-if's and could've beens for the Skins is the 9th level of football hell for me.

Re: Bruce Allen FINALLY speaks....at the Senior Bowl

I don't care if we drafted them or picked them up from other teams, but I remember we had good QBs in the day. Someone got the ball to Charley Taylor and Art Monk, both of whom retired with the highest catch total in the history of the NFL.
I.e.,
nobody's mentioned Sonny in their "we've never had good QBs". (Never that much into Billy.)

And our near miss was Marino, who (maybe it was) Casserley? thought was the "perfect pick", but got picked up 27th by Miami before we got our pick (Darrell Green.) So that was good scouting, but possibly a "little while" ago.

From what I've read, drafting QBs (and receivers) is a crap shoot, whereas picking one up as a free agent is much more reliable (although more expensive.)

I remember reading the reason the Dolphins took Marino was because we exposed Strock or Woodley - whoever the younger one was i forget - so bad in the Superbowl. It was indirectly our fault that we missed out on him.
As for our great quarterbacks i think the hogs and Riggo and all that other talent made them great. Damn it almost hurts to remember how freakin good we were than. Fuckin Snyder.
Also i think it was Beathard. Casserly got there in 89.

The rest of his career was below average compared to his peers.

Didn’t Williams start in the Superbowl? I think jay got hurt in the championship game.

Yes...according to a documentary that I saw, believe it or not Dave Woodley's failure in Super Bowl 17 actually shattered his confidence and he wasn't the same quarterback the next year.

Unfortunately Dave Woodley began as a slow spiral down

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Davi...ey?wprov=sfla1

And Yes...David Woodley's demise lead to the Dolphins drafting Dan Marino.

Doug Williams was the Starter in Super Bowl 22!

Doug had taken over the starting quarterback job from Jay Schrader before the playoffs started.

Incorrect, look it up. I remember the game very clearly. Schroeder started and was injured getting sacked. Schroeder only threw one pass and then was sacked and out of the game. Schroeder was injured on and off that whole year, did miss the first two play-off games, but did start the Super Bowl, just look at the box score.

I just looked it up and according to the Offical Pro Football Hall of Fame website, Doug Williams was the Starter for the Redskins in Super Bowl 22.

Re: Bruce Allen FINALLY speaks....at the Senior Bowl

Doug started the entire playoffs in 87, and started a few games during the regular season too. Jay S. was so hot and cold. He was benched for good in the season finale against the Vikings when Doug came off the bench and helped win that game. What a weird season that was w/ the strike and the replacement games.

Re: Bruce Allen FINALLY speaks....at the Senior Bowl

Doug Williams took over the starting QB job after Jay Schroader was playing poorly the last game of the season against Minnesota....the Redskins played from behind and Doug Williams lead the Redskins to a win....afterwards the starting QB job was given to Doug and he started every game in the playoffs, including SB 22.
