Agree 100.

Love him but the league is a business.

Couple that with the fact that hes 31, I do think they have to be careful about how much they pay him, if they do give him a new contract. It does suck though, because where does that leave us if they can't get it done, with Erick Flowers? He has some leverage here, just hope it doesn't put the team in a bind... I suppose it could cause them to rethink the idea of releasing Norman...
This is the best argument I've ever seen in favor of paying Trent lol.

Aside from that, he's a team leader, he's always worked hard, and played through injury, and is amongst the best at his position. It's easy to see pay the man, but I'd give him a new contract with an out clause after 3 or so years because we know we're not getting 16 games a year out of him anymore.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

There is only one analysis that matters when deciding to pay him top money.

How many games do we win this year with him, without him?

(If you respond, please give the number of games you think he plays as well.)

What would you consider a legit offer? I would hate to see him go, but like you said the numbers have to be right, or the offer has to be right.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

It's a smart time for him to do this with the investment the team just made that they expect him to protect for another 3-4 years....

Cut Vernon Davis and give Trent a few million per year more. Otherwise, you go into a major rebuilding mode.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

This is pretty shitty and selfish of Trent and his agent for pulling this shit when knowingly that Scherff is up for a contract renewal, the team is in the hole for $20M for Alex Smith. The team put up with his pot suspensions, getting hit in the head with a bottle at bar in Hawaii and his many injuries. The only way to pay Trent and Scherff is to cut Norman, Reid and Davis.

So nobody is actually going to value wins added for next year?

He is already making bank. So you're advocating making him the highest paid OL.

You should at least be able to value what he brings to the team in wins.

No he isn't. He is looking out for himself, just like every other smart player and smart owner.

None of that is his fault.

You're talking socialism brah.

Don’t do a thing as an org. When asked by the outside we simply state we need our team leader back as soon as possible. I would be firm that a trade is not an option. I would tell silverblunt privately at this time we don’t have the flexibility but wait until after next season to see what we can do...can Trent play his first full season in four years?

Who knows how much Scherff and Williams want? Scherff is not getting more than the top tackles make. And does he want to stay? 14 million a year?

What kind of extension is Trent looking for? Would he accept an incentive-based extension?

There should be enough money. If Smith is a 6/1/20 cut he is just a $10 million dollar hit in 2020 and 2021. This will be Norman, Reed, and Davis last year. Plus there could be a major increase in the cap limit next year.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal

Trent Williams is worth more to us than any other team. We won't get anything in a trade that will be worth it. He is a freaking Skins legend that is still one of the best LTs in the game. Pay the man. He's a lifer.

If we can only do one deal tho, it would suck, but Scherff is more important long term. He is our future Sliverback (anchor).

I don't have faith in the Skins a lot of times, but I think they figure out a way to get both done.

He is “under contract”, I hate it when players pull this strong arm tactics. Honor your fucking contract, you’ll get paid.

Totally agree. Hate to say it but handle it like the Patriots do. They'd trade him... Hell they cut a te for not showing up at camp and te is a position of need.. They are a no-nonsense organization. Its a team. If we extend him him we stand a good chance of not being able to resign shereff (sp) and others....
