Re: Packers Pregame Thread (Hopkins cut)

Sure didn't take long for cutting Hopkins to blow up in our faces eh?

Re: Packers Pregame Thread (Hopkins cut)

Cutting him was one thing, having a viable alternative is quite another

Add kicker to the offseason priority list.

Re: Packers Pregame Thread (Hopkins cut)

I couldn’t imagine hiring someone this incapable of doing the job at my work.

Not doing due diligence to see if the new kicker could elevate the ball past the los is another knock against Ron. Just negligence

Re: Packers Pregame Thread (Hopkins cut)

He was brought in to the practice squad and elevated after 2 weeks. Presumably he was kicking in practice and not just stood around all day watching Hopkins. I'd suggest, as he'd never kicked in an NFL game before, practice conditions didn't prep him for the real thing. Could be a case of the yips and he'll get better, but if this is something he can't get over, then bye bye hopefully.

I criticise RR because if you're shopping for a kicker mid season, you should look for a proven vet. Why grab a kid off the street and only have what he does in practice as your yardstick? Seems Hopkins being bounced was more of a 'look I'm happy to cut poor performers' message to the team, rather than an honest attempt to improve things.

If we are considering swapping again, we should move fast. Steelers Boswell is likely out a week or 2 (concussion) so they'll grab the best available before we get a look in if we're not careful.

Re: Packers Pregame Thread (Hopkins cut)

At this time of year Blewitt is the best that is available, that is the problem. If Ron and co had dealt with this in the offseason, like moving Collins to LB, they would have been much better off. Waiting until the middle of the season and cutting a guy when there never was likely to be a viable alternative is just stupid. Question is how much did the ST coach have to do with this?
