This is awesome.. I honestly didn't expect to be impressed by Snyder's work on this whole situation. It's pretty amazing that Snyder and few people have been working on it for a little while and we didn't know anything about this until last week.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

So much for the idea that no quality coach would want to come here.

I think he wanted the challenge, he's an old school no bs coach and I love that

I am pretty sure Bruce Allen getting the boot helped Rivera's decision.

Rivera likely told Snyder he had to get rid of Bruce Allen before he'd sign anything.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Not sure of how true it was but I saw something on Twitter yesterday that said Rivera's agent wasn't even going to allow him to interview until Allen was gone.

I hope this is true. What ever it takes to get rid of Bruce.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

As bad as Snyder has been, I honestly think he's learned over the years. I think he's done much much better in the past 5 or so years and moving on from Bruce Allen might let us all see the progress he's made. Not saying we won't see some Little Danny moments here and there but I don't think Dan Snyder is the same guy he was 20 years ago. Letting Kyle Smith and Eric Schaeffer do their jobs, hell just keeping them in house, plus this hiring process with Rivera. I think he's learned who he can listen to and who he can't. At least, I hope so..

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Per John Keon:

Source close to Steve Wilks said at this time he does not expect him to join Ron Rivera in Washington as the DC. Had coached with him in Carolina.

Keim said same thing.. This notion makes me to like Ron even more - he knows it will be a challenge to work with Redskins given Snyder's history and he gladly accepted the challenge. I'm trying not to drink koolaid too much but it's hard not to. I cannot wait to see what Snyder and Ron will do with the FO structure. I really hope we will keep Schaefer and Smith by promoting them both.

5 years is the right length for a contract. I am cautiously optimistic about the hire AND the differences I see in Snyder's approach.

Ron Rivera should bring a sense of discipline and drive that Jay Gruden just never showed. He can use the defensive talent far more effectively, and makes the potential Chase Young selection far more meaningful than it might have been. I like that he has worked with a young breakout qb, and can bring that knowledge into Haskins' development, even if he isn't directly guiding the offense. I also like that he is from the Andy Reid coaching tree. I think he will have a hunger to prove he should not have been released like he was.

As for Snyder's approach. I think it is clear that while we were ALL bemoaning the possibility of BA staying, Snyder was meeting, evaluating and developing a plan of action. The difference between this time and when he fired Vinny, is that there is no evidence of Skins Legacy in the decision. He has brought in a very highly respected defensive mind to take this franchise forward. He is cleaning a lot of house that survived the past purges (most likely because of cronyism with BA).

That is not to say there isn't strong concern that a GM is not hired but I the importance of a strong coach, and getting him in place gives the organization time to re-build the FO, and bring a GM in that is on the same page.

People also don't want Snyder involved, but when a corporation is at Rock Bottom, it's up to the CEO, owner, president to get their hands dirty and put the ship in order, and use the immense available resources available to them to do that. It sounds, from reports, that this is what Snyder is trying to do.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

So much for the hands off approach.

Per Grant Paulson:

Dan Snyder is running the house-cleaning show solo today. He is handling exit conversations with departing staffers like Larry Hess in his office at the park. Used to be other people to do that but with Allen out and other changes in the works it's his show today.
