Re: What would it take to get Lechler
I know the man is a great punter, but can we afford to get him under the cap? Usually our punter is one of the lowest paid players, Lechler will require more.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler
Thats funny I was thinking the same thing. I think we should dedicate most of our resources to O/D Line but Lechler is a no brainer. He should be a priority

Re: What would it take to get Lechler
If all he's going to command is 2 mill. then we should still be ok. I think the last numbers people came up with was somewhere around 14 mill after we cut and possibly restructer some contracts. Usually the Rookie pool is around 3-4 mill. That still gives us some room to try for either an O-lineman or D-lineman. Right now we are like 600k over with the restructer of Carter and Randel El. right? Letting Taylor go frees up 8.4 mill. and depending on what they do with Springs ...if they let him go it frees up another 6 mill. that's already 14 not including any others. The big question is are we keeping Taylor and restructuring? will Springs restructure? or will we let them go?

Re: What would it take to get Lechler
Hey any chance of us picking up a soccer player who can kick a round ball 50 yrds or more and having him kick a football just as long for less? LOL.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler
What would it take to get Lechler....? Well he does work for Al Davis for now......until he gets fired. Kinda looks like the thread has run it's course...but it's the traiders ya never know.
RAIDERS REEL IN LECHLER Posted by Mike Florio on February 18, 2009, 9:47 p.m. At a time when it appeared that Raiders punter Shane Lechler would leave via free agency, the team worked out a new contract with the man owning one of the strongest legs in the game. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Lechler will receive $12 million over four years, with $9 million guaranteed. Lechler is the first punter to receive an average of $3 million per year. Some league observers thought that the Raiders were ready to move on, given that Lechler was allegedly thumped on a plane flight home from a road game by defensive tackle Terdell Sands — and that Sands faced no discipline. Then again, it was just a punter. The move also clears the way for the Raiders to use the franchise tag on Nnamdi Asomugha. According to RaiderBeat.com, a fairly new team-specific web site with a domain name that is crying out for a cease-and-desist letter from the organization, Asomugha and the team are closing in on a deal.
