Drafting qb's is an absolute crap shoot.

Keep throwing darts at the dart board but don't bet the farm unless it's an Andrew Luck type.

It's a totally different era. The NFL is now a QB league. Many of the great teams of those days would never be able to keep all of their players. No way could the Giants keep Carson, Taylor, Banks, Pepper Johnson.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

If we sign Flacco, I'll cry.

I don't want any retread. Draft a guy in the top few rounds and hope Colt/Alex can get you thru 2019 and playing rookie isn't necessary. At least 1st part of the season.

I agree it's a different league but that method isn't that far in the past.

Jacksonville made it to the AFC championship with Blake Bortles, a great RB, and defense.

I agree with you though, there are two types of teams. Teams with good qb's and teams looking for a qb.

There are two main competing schools of thought, mortgage the farm for a guy (RG3) or stay medium while searching and building.

I'm for the latter just because drafting Qb's is such a crap shoot.

Hmm....Antonio Brown(Central Michigan) and Khalil Mack(Buffalo University) also came from that conference....I don't think we can determine how good or how poor a player will be in the NFL based on what school he played for....there are players who played for division 2 programs playing in the NFL...

Film never lies, Tyree may turn out to be a solid QB but right now he's not. Maybe a 6th round guy but nothing higher

There was Brock Osweiler in Denver....he is 6'8 and played outstanding for the Broncos...but he signed that free agent contract with the Houston Texans and the success he had in Denver didn't translate well in Houston...probably because of he wasn't suited for the offensive system in Houston.....

I don't see him being a day one pick....but I don't see him being a day three pick either...I see him being taken somewhere in the 4th round...he's only a junior but let's see if Jackson returns for his senior year...he probably won't.

Were on earth do you get this notion that Brock played outstanding in Denver? I suggest you look at his film and the stats. I still have no idea how he managed to trick the Texans into signing that contract. I know the Texans were desperate for a QB at the time to pair with that defense, but it was far from obvious that he was not the answer.

^^ I just assumed he was trolling with that "Brock Osweiler was great in Denver" line. If not, ...

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Colt just had a bad game with 3 Int. He may win us a few games but he's not the answer except as a career backup.

AS will have to come back, if able, but his cap hit is so huge it means we can't attract a veteran QB of caliber, even if there was one available. Alex was not doing very well before the injury and he'll be 35 next year after major leg surgery. He's not the answer either.

We need to draft for the future QB of this franchise. We need to bite the bullet and draft for a QB that can take us to the top. We may need to trade down to get the best QB of the draft.

Who is worth trading down for in the 2019 draft?....there might be a few in 2020, however it is very expensive to trade down

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

We need help at every position besides DL. I'd move on from Norman, Brown, and Foster. Dix hasn't done enough yet to earn a big contract. I'd think about moving on from Reed and/or Davis too. Probably need to keep 1 of them.

Right now, I'd try to re-sign Preston. Anderson is playing better too. If Smith is too expensive, that's another position we'll need to fill.

Needs:

CB x 2
S
ILB × 2
OLB (unless Smith is resigned)
WR x 2
G and/or C x 2
TE
QB

This would also include FA.

Fire Bruce Allen. Probably time to move on from Gruden too, especially if there is a plan to draft QB.

Good luck front office.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

I would suggest taking a good hard look at the secondary....either release or trade Norman...trade Moreau....draft CB Byron Murphy out of Washington....we need a WR too....Mason Foster is in the final year of his contract.....draft ILB Khalil Hodge from Buffalo to replace him....I'm high on the entire D line, Quentin Dunbar, Swearinger, and Zack Brown...Clinton-Dix won't probably be re-signed either...I cut him some slack since he's still learning a new defense....but he's still not doing enough....players who can bite the bullet include Josh Norman, Fabian Moreau, Montae Nicholson, and Preston Smith....
