I like it, the more capable minds in the front office the better.

This front office didn't even have a sous chef before. We've had one of the most bare bones operations for years now.

Mayhew wasn’t great with the Lions. Like him as a player, not sold on him as a personnel man. Time will tell, maybe someone can ease my mind with some good examples but I’m not getting fuzzies..

I mean he's worked in two other places since Detroit, including SF when they went to the SB last year.

Ridiculous. We were so understaffed last year, it's crazy. If you wanted to offer Washington a trade, who did you call?

Kyle was busy scouting. Ron was busy coaching.

We need more smart people in this area. After all this time not having a proper structure for this, I cannot fathom complaining about having too many cooks in the kitchen.

This 1000%

Ron has said he wanted to beef up the front office, moves like these definitely takes work off his plate.

I like the enhanced structure. Liking the people put into the structure is TBD. Might as well think positive about it, because it is what it is.

true, we will see in the results. Just hope Kyle, Hurney and Stokes work together in the personnel and saturation the team with talent. Taking items off Ron plate is a positive

He took over an 0-16 Lions team, and within 3 years they won 10 games. He wasn't awful.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread

Per this link, Mayhew's focus was primarily on the pro-side of scouting.

https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49...n-front-office

Hurney - GM
Mayhew - VP of Pro Personel/Scouting
Smith - VP of College Scouting

That would be pretty sweet.

Re: Marty Hurney Thread

I wonder if Mayhew coming impacts Stafford. His biography on 49ers site says "Mayhew was responsible for the draft selection of QB Matthew Stafford"

Seems like he would have some leanings that way.

Couldn’t hurt, unless he boinked Stafford’s old lady or something.

This is a big reason why I'm not stressing about this. Ron and the FO staff not only need to be on the same page in regards to their scouting eyes, Ron needs help. I trust the process even if I'm not sold on the hires.
