Often not a good idea.

I applaud DS for doing exactly what I've wanted him to do all along. Hire capable minds, and get the hell out of the way.
Exactly what we have all been saying for years!!

I just don't get the hire in the first place. We all wanted to believe as fans that we would catch some kind of lightening in a bottle, but it was all just a pipe dream. The odds on that happening where about the same as winning the powerball jackpot when you factor in the Redskins organizational culture. At that time the inmates were running the asylum so to speak, not our coaches. Add in the fact that Zorn was never really ever to get the players to believe in him or his system, it was a recipe for disaster. I do not believe DS made the hire with the hope of him failing, because as we all know DS wants to win, he was just flat out wrong in his approach.

Did I miss the part of the article about Clinton Portis or something? Is there a page two I can't see? I really want to read this.

very good article, I always like to hear the whole behind the scenes as to how a hiring is done or contract is made.

I also wouldn't mind hanging out with snyder for a night being in DC one moment and then saying 'O F#ck it! lets go to Denver and hang out with Ole Mike Shanahan!' the next moment. Couldn't you just see those four guys as the guys from the hangover and Vinny as Allen (Zack Galifianakis)

I would think you could say by getting the hell out of the teams way he owned his own mistakes. He realized the way he was trying to get the job done was wrong, and brought in the right people to "right" the ship. By doing so he admitted to not knowing what he was doing, and in a sense owned up to his mistakes.

I never said DS lead us to being contenders, and I also might add that I am not sold on this year, but I am sold on this franchise's new direction. Which I believe in the next couple of years will be put us in contention to win the East and hopefully more.

How is hiring MS showing off everything that is wrong with his ownership?

ALSO wow, you put our owner and Al Davis as the worst owners in the league and fail to mention Jerry Jones.

Zorn didn't run situational drills and he tried to show up a vet. The fact that he was a pos coach doomed him not Portis.

yes there is, at the bottom of the last paragraph of the 1st page of the article you will see there is 3 more pages. They are marked as tabs on all WP articles that have multiple pages. The CP story is a very short part of the article.

It wasn't even that, it was the fact that Dumb (Snyder) and Dumber (Ceratto) thought it would be smart to go out and hire a offensive and defensive coordinator without hiring a head coach. Now, whoever you get, is going to have to accept those two coordinators. Now tell me, what coach on earth is going to take a HC position without being able to choose his own staff? A desperate one....like Zorn. They painted themselves into a corner and had no way out except for the gullible Zorn.

Re: Washington Redskins: How Daniel Snyder found his man in Mike Shanahan

This makes it all the more interesting now in comparison:

1) Zorn era: Portis defies coach and goes directly to Snyder who makes coach apologize.

2) Shanny era: Shanny benches $100 million dollar man, expensive FA Pro-Bowl QB, and releases Portis in the second season. Not a single word from Snyder.

Basically Snyder undermined Zorn's authority from year one. Zorn should've been able to put Portis in his place if he wanted to. Also seems like the players didn't respect Zorn, lost the locker-room. (Not saying Zorn would've done any better with more authority.)

Also says that Shanny has complete control.

You know, that was a great article that had a great behind-the-scenes look at the hnic at redskins park, but after reading that article I feel like shanny represents our last hope at turning this franchise around with dan in charge.

I honestly don't think ds has changed that much from the sound of it. And if he fires shanny, which could very well happen judging from both his treatment of zorn and the way he blew up at shanny after the mcnabb wristband incident, makes me think this team could be doomed for a few more years. Danny's reputation precedes him enough that could hamper his ability to find another top notch coach.

All in all this article just makes me want to root for shanny even harder, because I don't feel like I can just keep putting up with the constant losing. It's gotta be our turn at some point, and I hope that point is soon.

Re: Washington Redskins: How Daniel Snyder found his man in Mike Shanahan

to me that article just made Danny look like an idiot.Lets get drunk and go get Shanahan! That explains some of his other moves. How many other moves did he do after drinking? Hey,lets get Jeff George! deon!,etc
And letting Portis dictate to him like that is pathetic

My take on the article is that Cerrato gave the WP his view and made DS look real bad. They never attributed their source, but some of the things could only be known by a few people if true, and the line where he turns to Cerrato and says "take care of this" seems like a self important claim someone like Vinny would make. Also the direct lying incident to PK. Anyway, who knows if any of this is true or just a one sided/bitter view of the actions.

DS has always seemed to me to find one guy and trust him, usually with bad results, I hope he is changing but we will see.
