Re: MLB thread

Always hated facing Scherzer during his time in Washington, but always loved his game.

Re: MLB thread

Can Freddie Freeman hurry up and sign a contract so I know what team I need to add to my hate list or up my hate on?

I will still want FF to be great, but I don't want that team to be successful. It will hurt too much to watch.

Re: MLB thread

It will be interesting to see where Freeman and Correa land. Atlanta moving on past Freeman is odd. Olson is bigtime but so is Freeman. Still getting used to we really have baseball now.

It sucks but the length of the contract he wanted with the Braves wasn’t gonna work. Freeman will be missed, so clutch and such a vet.

But Olsen is from Atlanta, on a small deal for a couple years and is a perfect replacement as a left handed power hitter. It was too perfect…a perfect call

Braves signed INF Matt Olson to an eight-year $168 million extension.
The deal comes with a $20 million option for 2030. Olson will make $15 million this season, $21 million in 2023, and $22 million per year over the remainder of his contract. Atlanta recently acquired Olson in a trade with the Athletics to replace long-time fan favorite Freddie Freeman at first base. The 27-year-old Olson posted a .271/.371/.540 slash line with a career-high 39 homers in 673 plate appearances last year and should be a fantasy baseball stud for years to come.

Ok, I got some questions now

After losing Freeman, and trading away some damn good prospects, thank goodness he got extended. 8 years is a long contract, but he is only 27, he will be 35 when the contract is done. And he is not a big guy (weight wise) so he should be able to age this contract pretty well.

Also, Freeman is likely to get way more than 168 million in less years, so I am fine with this Olson contract.

Re: MLB thread

So did this Freeman thing just come down to $$? I like Olson, but I'd definitely take Freeman over him.

My understanding it was contract length, 25 per was ok with Braves…I think the Braves were at 4 years, Freeman & Co were like At 6.

Freeman is 32

If you're into advanced stats, Olson was actually better last year. Or equal, and he is 4.5 years younger. In regards to pure baseball, Olson is probably the better long term bet, but it still sucks to lose FF though. But he will also probably make more money in less yeas.

Olson: .379 wOBA, .379 xwOBA, 146wRC+, and a WAR of 5.0.

Freeman: .379 wOBA, .416 xwOBA, 135wRC+, and a WAR of 4.5.

Re: MLB thread

Rizzo is back with the Yankees.

Looks like it's Dodgers vs. Dodgers for Freeman.

Re: MLB thread

Luke Jackson underwent an MRI recently, which revealed damage to the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Not great. Jackson is expected to undergo further evaluation, but could ultimately be headed for Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery. Regardless, he's going to be out for awhile. His absence is a significant blow to the Braves' bullpen depth. The 30-year-old righty posted a sparkling 1.98 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 70/29 K/BB ratio across 63 2/3 innings (71 appearances) last year.

This guy was a monster in the bullpen. Big loss

Forearm tightness is always Tommy John. I knew once that was announced his season was over. Don't delay it any further. Get the surgery done now.

Let's look at this from the Von Miller perspective.

He says it wasn't about the bread, but were the Rams offering him (up to) 120 million?

Note - he probably won't come close to that 120 mil because his cap hit in the third year of the deal jumps to 17 million - which is a ton to be paying a 34-35yo pass rusher who already has 160 NFL games under his belt at age 33.

Anyways this is the MLB thread - I'm guessing Freeman wanted to make a lot of money and also play for a title contender - guessing the Braves didn't want to match what the Dodgers were offering in terms of years or money.

Re: MLB thread

Have you guys heard about this device catchers will be using to thwart stealing pitch signs for this season? Pitchcom? Very surprised they're just rolling the news out on this right as the season starts...should be interesting.
