Re: Super Bowl LIII Patriots vs Rams

By the numbers:

Rams Defense for regular season
Rams #19 in yards per game allowed at 358.6
Rams #20 in yards per game allowed at 24
(with AqibTalib they only allowed 18 per game)
Rams #14 in passing yards allowed per game at 236.2
Rams #23 in rushing yards allowed per game at 122.3

Rams offense for regular season
Rams #6 in passing yards 4507 at 281.7 yards average per game
Rams #3 in rushing yards 2231 at 139.4 yards average per game
Rams #2 in points per game scored at 32.9 per game

Patriots defense for regular season
Patriots #20 in yards per game allowed at 359.1
Patriots #7 in points per game allowed at 20.3
Patriots #22 in passing yards per game at 246.4
Patriots #11 in rushing yards per game at 112.7

Patriots offense for regular season
Patriots #8 in passing yards 4258 at 266.1 yards average per game
Patriots #5 in rushing yards 2037 at 127.3 yards average per game
Patriots #4 in points per game scored at 27.2 per game

I think this is a testament of how good the defensive game plans were last night. Rams defense has been severely overrated for most of the year. (they do seem to do a lot better with Talib in)

Patriots defense was a bend but not break kind of defense for most of the year judging by the low number of points allowed, but giving up the higher yards. The Rams defense was a bend and a break defense judging by the points given up and the yards given up.

Wade vastly over-performed last night, while McVay simply shit the bed. To only manage 3 fucking points when you were averaging 33 per game? BB will be living rent free in his head from here on out. You don't recover from ass-kickings like that.

Re: Super Bowl LIII Patriots vs Rams

Not sure if anyone has brought this up yet, but viewership of the Super Bowl was reported to be at a 10 year low.

When i heard all the chatter after the championship game, about all the people not watching the Super Bowl because of the Patriots, i really wondered what the actual numbers would be, and if it would reflect that. And now we know. I'm kind of curious how much more it would decline next year if the Pats go in again.

It's almost like everyone's tired of seeing the Pats in the Super Bowl.

And I hear Nawleans had a hell of a party, ratings were almost cut in half down there.

Guarantee if it was a high scoring game the ratings would have been different

Pats-Eagles last year had the fewest viewers since '09, and that was a shootout.

I also think the Rams not having a fanbase played into it a bit, Saints-Pats probably would've been better in that regard.

LA doesn't care about pro football. IDK why they have 2 teams to begin with.

Don’t like the “training” current and future fans only to appreciate high-scoring games. People would rather see a DB slip and fall down leaving a TE open for a silly 30 yd waltz into the end zone than watch a S close 20 yds on a receiver to tip away a 3rd and 8 pass.

Good defense is fun to watch.

Lots more going on in this SB, just sayin . . .

I love a good defensive game but this one didn’t have that feel to it. It was just an uneventful game.

Agree...its not like this had exciting defense. Very much scheme chess moves to take away things you do well....with the Rams-they wanted to cut down on the James White type west coast short pass game, rush Brady....Pats - cut out the play action/boot early down action, stop run game.

It wasn't hard hitting, physical defense nor was it big, play defense....

yawn....

Great breakdown of Goff's play in the SB. (hint: terrible)

It was a complete reversal of how I thought the game would play out....the Rams defense looked quite soft and their offense looked overwhelmed and was outcoached...Joe Gibbs once said when you're dealing with a stingy defense you have to keep running the football and alternate the blocking schemes upfront until the defensive line begins to leak so holes can open up and have the defense focus on the run before you start passing the ball...LA didn't do that....McVay didn't adjust to what the Pats defense was doing to his offense.....

Exactly. THIS is the kind of game you would have expected in 2001 when the Giants and Ravens (both insane defenses and mediocre offenses) played in the Super Bowl. How we got this shit SB with these two high powered offenses is mind boggling. It really boils down to coaching and they aren't even close in that area.

Giants defense:
Giants ranked #5 in yards per game allowed at 284.1
Giants ranked #5 in points per game allowed at 15.4

Giants offense:
Giants ranked #13 in yards per game at 336.0
Giants ranked #14 in points per game at 20.8

Ravens defense:
Ravens ranked #2 in yards per game allowed at 247.9
Ravens ranked #1 in points per game allowed at 10.3

Ravens offense:
Ravens ranked #16 in yards per game at 313.4
Ravens ranked # in points per game at 20.5
