Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Even a pre-injury Alex Smith would struggle to win 8 games with this team, just not enough weapons. I don't see any benefit to pulling the plug on Dwayne unless he's just a total disaster, and really yesterday was a little out of the ordinary for him. He hasn't played that poorly with turnovers since early on last year.

Haskins has rarely shown flashes of anything above being a top 15, top 20 QB but I agree that he is very inexperienced and once you account for that, he's played about as good as you can expect from him. We put in him a bad spot drafting him.

We don't have anyone else, including Alex, who is ready and able to do any better. I'd consider a trade for Trubisky just to give both QB's a better opportunity given Trubisky will be relegated to back up and Haskins needs to a backup behind someone like Alex or Foles for awhile.

Trade aside, you have to give Haskins 10 games. If he regresses, then give the ball to Kyle Allen the last 6 weeks and start to make a new plan for 2021.

Top 15?? You are being very generous lol. Haskins is bottom 2 right now since Mitch got benched.

RR on Haskins " You are not a rookie anymore, we have to see progression not regression"

I disagree Alex Smith wouldn’t be better right now. No way. I know he isn’t thenQB of the future but in a game like yesterday’s he’s have given us a better chance to win.

The team has decided to give Haskins a shot to prove he’s the QB of the future and they’re being patient. But there surely has to be limits.

RR talks of being patient with Cam Newton. He threw too many picks his rookie season, but he also threw for > 4000 yards. See: https://www.pro-football-reference.c.../gamelog/2011/

His game - as a true rookie in a new offense - was better on every level. To be clear, I am not as much doing the comparison of two players as much as I am making the point that RR perhaps didn’t have his patience tested like DH is testing his patience because his rookie QB then showed real promise; more so than ours has to date.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Haskins have a good press conference after the game. Broke down what happened on the ints.
https://www.pscp.tv/w/1gqGvaEzalzKB

He mentioned he is trying to do too much on long down situations and needs to sometimes look to the check down vs trying to get all the yardage.

1st int - 2nd and 25
2nd - 3rd and 7
3rd - 3rd and 15

I’m starting to wonder if he’s being told to look primary route then check down. Basically putting training wheels on him in regards to not letting him go through his progressions. He did seem to lock on to 1 route and then force it into coverage.

10 games he has started. He should get this season and if things get real real bad perhaps Allen finishes the last 2 games but he should get to play this season out. New offense, new players, pedestrian run game.

I think RR needs to be asked more about the run game imo.

Haskins situation is tough. I believe on 1 hand, both for all the other players and the fans, the best players at any position that give you the best chance to win need to play. Anything less is disrespectful to said people. On the other hand, it's just a bit different with a young QB. Especially an inexperienced one. I say give Haskins 8-10 starts to see where he lands. If this is the normal performance, then put in Allen. The rest of the offense needs good work for 60 minutes, not getting that with Haskins. Every pass play makes me nervous. This is the NFL, that feeling shouldn't be a thing.

I give him all of the games this season. Then you know where you stand with him and can adjust the franchise's QB plan accordingly for the long term.

THERE IS NO QB ON THIS ROSTER THAT IS SUDDENLY GOING TO MAKE US A PLAYOFF TEAM.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Have to remember that RR didn't draft Haskins. So the rope isn't going to be too long. Fair or not that is the hand that DH has been dealt.

This is really Snyder's fault. You drafted a guy who was a project and Gruden didn't want him. Then you fire him, bring in RR who obviously didn't draft him.

Haskins isn't good but he has been put in a terrible position. It looks like he really shouldn't even be playing. Those rumors were correct that were coming out last year - that he needed two years on the bench. He is a slightly better version than Cardayle Jones.

It's only a matter of time before Ron benches him.

No way he gets the entire season. As Ron said it ain't fair to the other players when the QB is playing so poorly. You think it's fair to the other wr's who are playing with a guy who can't get the job done? He really should of had 4 picks but he got bailed out by Wright.

Allen can run the offense better. I have no question about that. He at least had some really good games last year.

Re: How Many Games Should We Test Haskins?

Allen doesn't have the arm talent but he's more accurate especially in the short-med range. No matter how u slice it, we will have a new QB next year unless somehow DH goes bananas the rest of the way

Haskins is very inconsistent, sometimes making laser passes to barely open receivers. Other times he is very inaccurate, missing wide open receivers.
His footwork is bad - even when there is no rush, he has “happy feet”, using his considerable arm strength to force passes downfield. His weak mechanics is much of the reason for his inaccurate throws. He seems at times to be playing tight - resulting in over-throwing the receivers often.

This game against Cleveland he got caught several times staring down receivers, resulting in INT. If Haskins QB play doesn’t improve soon, he will be eaten alive by really good defenses.

Of course, Haskins is not helped by a mediocre OL, and a weak WR group outside of McLaurin. I wonder how long Rivera is going to let Christian and Martin flounder before he attempts to try someone available in FA.

However, there were periods where he had good protection and open receivers/RB. He did well sometimes and other times he was inaccurate- missing his receiver or forcing them to make amazing catches. I think our offense could increase its stats by 20% if Dwayne could hit open guys, in stride.

With four turnovers, it is fair for fans to ask: how long do we keep playing Haskins? When have we seen enough?

I’d say by MID-SEASON would be the EARLIEST number of games before bringing in Allen or Alex Smith. You’ve got to let a young, inexperienced QB like Haskins have enough reps to test his meddle and learn the new offense. Maybe even 10 games. What do you think?

Remember, if you draft a QB in the first round you’ve got to give him enough games to prove himself. So I know there are ppl out there who want to dump Dwayne NOW. That’s too soon.

Topic: HOW MANY GAMES IS ENOUGH FOR DWAYNE HASKINS? Has the team given him enough support in terms of targets? Sure they brought in INMAN and Logan Thomas. But that’s about it. I was interested to see how HOOPER did for the Browns, since many of us had hoped the WFT would go for him in FA. The team has a ton of cap money - great for next year. IS THE OFFENSE GOOD ENOUGH TO PROPERLY TEST HASKINS?

My final thought is this: how could the Redskins draft a first round QB with such a low amount of inexperience? With significant problems with BASIC QB FUNDAMENTALS? A Pocket passer with big inaccuracy issues?? I see Snyder’s and Allen’s hands on this pick. Snyder likes players who were locals. When you draft a QB in the first round you want to winner. Someone who can do well enough in the first year to make you want to keep him. Haskins looks like PROJECT PLAYER who will need 1-2 seasons MORE to know if he’s a franchise QB. The NFL isn’t like that anymore. Sure Mahommes got to sit and learn behind Alex Smith. But most first round QB are thrown in the deep end from game 1. You get maybe two seasons max to prove yourself.

I think Haskins might be very good in 2-3 years. But this franchise doesn’t have 2-3 years. Furthermore, after 2-3 years Haskins may be a bust, like RG3, Jason Campbell, Shuler. BTW, historically most of those Redskin QB had 2-3 full seasons to prove themselves as FAILURES. That’s for all you that think the Haskin’s experiment should be over after 9 games. HOW MUCH TIME FOR HASKIN’s? Then who: Allen or Alex Smith?

none of the QB's mentioned were as bad as haskins has been . . . if your are tanking the season (dumping players that could have helped (think AP, Davis, etc.), not calling time outs, etc.) , keep him in there . . . if not, its time to see what Allen can do . . .Allen sure looked a hell of a lot better last year in Carolina hand Haskins has here.
