Well his reasoning for being untucked was that he could see our hairy belly buttons and ass crack, if my dress shirt is that long he should be fine.

Re: What REALLY grinds your gears?

Funny story about the whole tucked/untucked thing.

My office VP is a big stickler when it comes to this issue, he hates untucked shirts. We have a business casual office, so guys frequently wear a golf shirt, sometimes untucked, including myself most of the time. I go by length of the shirt to determine if it's tuck-able or not, some golf shirts simply aren't tuck-able.

So anyway, after much complaining on his part, he actually wanted to have me written up for wearing an untucked shirt. So I reviewed our dress policy with HR and confirmed that tucking your shirt was nowhere to be found in there. He had to back off. He still gives me a dirty look now and then. What a maroon.

Depends on the style.

Golf shirt and khaki shorts = tuck in WITH belt. A belt must be worn whenever any shirt is tucked in to anything.

Same goes with business casual or "nicer" clothes.

Working out with shorts and t-shirt = don't tuck

Same goes with casual or lawn-mowing wear.

Lol yup. My work shirt is long enough that I don't tuck it in, and since the parts department is pretty casual (work t-shirt/jeans) my boss doesn't care. Only time I tuck the shirt in is when it's absolutely necessary (i.e. black tie, interviews, etc.)

I don't get that. If you're going to tuck your shirt in, how are you not going to wear a belt? Tucking your shirt in without a belt makes it look half assed, especially if your shirt starts becoming untucked as a result of not wearing said belt.

I don't require it for shirt security reasons, it just looks stupid without a belt.

I agree with all that.
What bugs me is these guys at work that wear business casual pants with a button down shirt and leave it untucked like they are going to take a shit or something.

I think that's how Matty just described his office look.

A golf shirt should never be tucked.
