Come up with a new name for the Redskins

Red Tails - the only African American fighter group in WWII . It showed they could handle every single job in the unit from top to bottom. They flew P-40, P-47 and P-51.
Their performance was a big factor in the military desegregation in 1947.
Positives: Fight song stays the same
Colors the same
Really cool story
Honors the military AND a specific unit

Warriors - Positives:
Snyder owns the name
Colors stay the same
Bring back retro spear helmet
Honors the military in a broad sense
Negatives: NBA team same name

Red Hawks - hawk over much of U.S.
Positives- Fight song stays good
Same colors
Easy mascot
Negatives: 5 NFL teams have bird names

I thought the “Skins” might be in there but not listed in every article

Generals - negatives - team that loses every game to the Harlem Globetrotters is called the Generals.

I see this name change as very likely :

Snyder could lose $260 mil from Fed ex over this

Nike stopped selling our merchandise

DC won’t take us back for the stadium, Senators and Reps won’t vote for money to help build the stadium unless there is a name change.

There will be more events like this until Snyder makes a change. As the NFL is saying: “not if but when”

The more I think about it the more I like these three, in this order:

Redtails - as mentioned, it honours the military and specifically an important unit and it won't require massive rebranding; colours, designs and fight song can remain very similar.
Renegades - keeps the NA motif and again, little change needed
Warriors - mostly allows the branding to remain the same but will likely need reworking of the fight song.

I'm not religiously attached to the name as much as the team (not even the city as I've only been to DC once although I loved it), so my opinion is likely not massively important. But I don't think its pandering to the PC brigade; it has to be acknowledged that the word can be used as a derogative, even if rarely so any more. Better to start clean with a name that can't be associated with any rationally negative connotation, and maybe start a positive new era in the franchise history.

You might have sold me on Redtails. If we were going to rebrand I wanted it to be relevant to the city and not distant Alabama, but a national symbol for the nations capital I can get behind.

I’m hearing the Indians are talking about it ... please somebody tell how is referring to a person as a Indian offensive.. is it wrong to call somebody Chinese or Italian or Mexican .. If so are you considered rascist ? I’m trying to understand this whole ball of wax ..

I am totally against the name Redtails. Can you imagine all of the headlines "Washington has Redtails from loosing again. They got their T***s beat again and they are red from embarrassment.. That name is embarrassing.

I saw an article somewhere that mentions Washington Revolution. It’s not entirely historically accurate but goes in an very different direction. I’d be ok with that. America’s team!
