Skins vs the Cards Pregame Thread

Its here!

1. Hope Alex Smith doesnt need time to warm up like Cousins needed. He shouldn't, but more concerned the WR core will. Someone from the WR needs to emerge quickly.

2. Chris Thompson and Jordan Reed...no play during the Preseason...2 HUGE factors on Offense that we need to win. Hope they ready.

3. Must win week 1? I think the Cards could be an OK team this season but not a playoff team...This on paper should be a win. With the slow starts in the past and a pending schedule that gets rougher as the season goes on....We need this one, NFC game too!

4. Cards turnover defense this preseason has been scary...we brought Smith here to protect the ball. On the road, we cant turn it over. This could make or break this game.

5. AP vs his old team. I think we could have an advantage here..Hoping for a big debut.

That's a good question. I think this game is bigger for Jay Gruden than any other opener.

I'll chalk this one up as a loss as we'll start slow like always under Gruden. A cross country trip is always tough and we'll see sloppy tackling by the LB's and secondary, clock mismanagement and pissed away timeouts. I just question whether Gruden will have this team ready to play. I do hope that our d-line can and should be able to make some plays. If we're to win they have to get after china doll Bradford. I just see Johnson as the difference. He's a great player which we have no answer for, especially out of the backfield.

I'm more worried about David Johnson running wild.
Those big guys on the DLine are not ready to go 4 quarters.
We might see a total defensive collapse in the second half.

Ill be on the fire Greg Manusky quick if Johnson runs wild. Cards Oline isn't that great.

Im serious about Manusky...there less excuse for him versus Jay and the Offense. We have the talent and its healthy especially in the front 7.

When it comes to Performance on Defense...Preston Smith has no more fuckin excuses...he has the guys around him that should lift his game. Everybody has stated he is the man....prove it

Not everybody. I think he is overrated and I have said so many times.

We are weak overall at OLB, IMO. If, heaven forbid, we were to lose Ryan Kerrigan then everybody on this board would discover just how weak we are at that position PDQ.

That is nonsense. We have that potential playmaking stud in Anderson waiting in the wings if anything happens to Kerrigan.

MLB isn't any better.
If Brown goes down, It's going to get ugly with Vigil and Hamilton playing.

I think that's where Settle's preseason performance can actually help us. He played a LOT of snaps, and should be solid in rotation. It may be best off having him play near the full game with Payne, Ionaidis and Allen all rotating around him.

The Cards have many more question marks, the only thing they have going for them is being at home.

Re: Skins vs the Cards Pregame Thread

I'm not the least bit concerned about Alex, Chris, Jordan, and Adrian playing well right out of the chute. Those guys were born ready.

As for the Cards turnover defense, just keep Perine on the bench. I'm not making a joke about this. He could kill our chances for a win with an inopportune fumble. Let's see if Gruden is smart enough to avoid trouble by not risking a Perine fumble.

Small sample size for Perine, but you'll probably find that he and Peterson have roughly the same carry to fumble ratio. Perhaps Peterson's is a little higher even...

I do think the Redskins will definitely have to win the turnover battle though, to come out of there with a W.

Re: Skins vs the Cards Pregame Thread

Everything in our recent history says we lose this game in heartbreaking fashion, regardless of the stats, position strengths, ability of individual players.

I will watch it anyways, and hope the Skins and Gruden get past the Week 1 blues.
