Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

Dwayne Haskins turns in up-and-down 'Skins debut

What did you think? He was right where I thought he'd be in my opinion. He definitely flashed the big arm we knew he had and his ability to make big time throws is obvious. He also moved around better than people give him credit for, he's not a statue back there. The INT on the wheel route was pure rookie, staring down his target.

The thing is on the wheel route, he had him. Needed to put a little more on it and it would been a big gainer. So that was the right target, but under threw.

Ill say this...the fumble by the WR was pure trash. Killed the momentum because it just looked like we were going to score, had that feeling.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

On the Redskins Talk pod, Cooley broke down one of the interceptions and the breakdown was really encouraging.

He explained Haskins has only seen the Redskins defense play cover 3. Our DBs break off mid route which is exactly the way Haskins played it.

The Cleveland DBs play cover 3 differently, he said. Dwayne had never seen Cleveland's style because there was zero game planning.

Interceptions are bad but Dwayne threw it correctly for how he has been coached thus far.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

He is where I expected for his first ever game and not playing with any starters. On the wheel route the RB was open, Haskins just got excited and underthrew it but he was open. The second int was a bad one but those can be cleaned up. We saw the first two completions where his arm talent was on full display, idiotic WR just fumbled the ball, and almost had Sims for a TD. Excited to see him with more first team reps next week.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

I saw the physical gifts, the first throw on the rollout was pretty, placed perfectly, and was on the run with touch. Just looked like some iffy decisions as you’d expect for a rookie. And the protection wasn’t great.

All in all very encouraging. Once he catches up on the mental part and works through the baptism by fire in the NFL, he’ll be very good. It will take time but we knew that.

Also if he gets the support from a good ground game in Peterson Guice and Thompson, I think he’d look better, even despite still having to learn a lot.

I knew he was no statue, but the dude really had some wheels! His biggest thing (and I'm not coach) is footwork. When his base was sound, he was throwing money balls.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

Agree he looked to move as well as Cousins on those read options. Definitely nimble enough to scramble for the occasional first down.

He did it often in college but the NFL speed wasn't always there, last night he proved he can get first downs. Kid reminds me so much of Big Ben when he was young

No worries based on last night’s performance. His tool kit is outstanding — brains, arm, pocket presence, feet — and once we get an O line together with a ground game (even looking past 71 into the 2020’s), there’s a lot for us to be psyched about.

Re: Dwayne Haskins preseason thread

The worst part of this whole thing was watching Daniel Jones look like a seasoned vet. Sure, it was five throws, but I'd rather HE be the one who looked like shit.

My biggest concern... is him not getting injured in preseason. He needs the rep. But tell me that sack he took yesterday didn't scare you ? If Jay keeps not playing the starters he's put in a risky spot.

In one of the sacks, the defender went straight for his knees and I don't know how that wasn't a flag.
