Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

Pretty good draft in my opinion. You can call some of the picks "reaches", but that's only if you buy into the rankings. I do not. With the exception of the top 10 or so, the rankings are all over the place. I think I'll trust the scouts, coaches, and GMs who get paid for a living to evaluate the players for their skills, potential, and FIT with this team.

I do wish they had found a way to address the LB position, but it appears they stuck with their board, and not Daniel Jeremiah's board or one of the many other rankings put together by fantasy football writers, CBS, or whatever. Can't hate them for that. They were also able to maneuver around to get more picks - instead of six total, they ended up with six in the top 150.

Still work to do, but I think the draft was solid.

100% - while LB is a worry, we addressed gaps in the roster and may even have picked up a future starting QB (or at least a solid backup).

I only hope they've done their homework on the UDFA pool. Seems every year we don't bring guys in and they get picked up by other teams and succeed. Could well be our missing LBs are in that pool; maybe not a starter but at least improved depth.

And with those picked up in the draft, there will be guys surplus to requirement on other rosters soon. Could be a guy or 2 that are better fits for us.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

Everyone loves the picks the day after. Grade them a year from now. We ought to do a poll now on the 2021 draft. Looking back it was just so so at best. Still a ways to go on it obviously. But the sign of a great draft and a great GM is what you do in the mid and late rounds.

What I did like is they seemed to get a real ball hawk w/ ball skills at safety in Butler. 4.39 speed w/ ball skills is exactly what we need back there. Loved that one.

Also the big TE from Nevada. He needs to be developed but that could be a steal.

And the Howell pick. Thank god they finally drafted a freakin QB. He was one of the best QB's in the country in 19 and 20. Fell off a bit last year. Don't care. Let's see how he responds to NFL coaching. Great pick.

Here is a list of UDFA’s we signed according to USA Today, includes two LB’s, a productive WR and a 6’7” 249 pound QB.

Heard from league source on Commanders 5th rounder TE Cole Turner: “I love the pick. This guy has mad skills. I think he has the potential to be a stud.” I asked about blocking questions - “Like most TEs now, he’s more of a big WR target.” Turner had 1300 yds, 19 TDs last 2 yrs

He had the 2nd strongest arm in the class according to Mcshay. He’s also pretty accurate. Honestly he could be the steal of this class and James Jones said the same thing.

We now have 2 QBs that excel at Throwing the Bomb, as my mom likes to say. McLaurin and Dotson are gonna feast.

Turner and Thomas should also find success in the middle of the field.

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread

I’d say the first 3 picks need to contribute immediately. And from the talk of both Ron and MM they state the same thing.

They are expected to pick up the system quickly, put in work and get results right away. They can’t be like our first round pick from last year, where he was getting less than 10 snaps in week 12.

That’s not the expectations with the top 3 picks. They need to produced NOW

I’d imagine all 3 will. All of them are at positions of where they can
