Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
If he goes to the Vikings it will be a classic letdown free agency signing. Free agency doesn't work for the most part because you have some many variables...new city, new teammates, new coordinator, new scheme, massive contract and lofty expectations. Kirk just doesn't have the command and dominant personality like Manning or Brees does where he can walk on another team and start fast.
I also don't believe that the Vikings w/ Zimmer as the HC, and being a defense first team, is going to offer Cousins 30 million a year. |

Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
The main question is do you roll with the journeyman or take a chance on the top QB available with a loaded roster that's ready to win now? Pretty obvious answer in my book.

True and great point.
But what I fear deep down is nothing is good enough to beat Philly.

I really cannot even begin to give credit to philly. I just can't. I do not think they're that good. I think they were very lucky down the stretch and, sadly, very well coached. That's it. And with a season of film on them now I expect a drop off and I hope I'm right.

But I share your hope. For me, the losses of Frank Reich and John DeFilippo have to mean something. I wonder if they can collectively coach as well without those two guys around.

Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
Philly just won it all with their backup QB and people don’t want to give them their due? Come on know it’s a division rival but let’s not be ridiculous, they were extremely legit last year

I believe that every Super Bowl winner is the best team that season. That's why they are called The Champions. Bill Parcells famously said, "You are what your record says you are" and I believe that wholeheartedly. As for the future, I believe they have an elite starting QB, an outstanding GM, and a potentially great HC, so how bad could they possibly be? No, they'll be contenders in 2018. They will simply re-load and go back to work. |

Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
D HALL speaking of our former QB that one guy number 8.
“We kind of felt like the commitment wasn’t there from Kirk,” Hall said, via the Washington Post. “We obviously wanted Kirk. We franchised him because we wanted him there. It was up to ownership and the front office to kind of work those numbers out. They couldn’t get the numbers worked out, so he signed franchise tags those two football seasons. Everybody in that locker room was behind Kirk, wanted him there, but we wanted to feel like he wanted to be there as well. Having played 14 years, I understand, ‘Let’s go get the money,’ but at some point there has to be mutual interest from both parties to want to get better collectively as a team. Paying Kirk probably the $30 million he’s going to get, we couldn’t do that and get better as a football team.” “I felt like some of the offers that we heard about — just being players in the locker room, you kind of hear whispers,” Hall said. “Some of the offers we felt like we heard, we were like, ‘Man, that’s a good deal. Why wouldn’t Kirk take it?’ So, we kind of did a lot of talking among ourselves, and it was just a feel. He never said anything. He never walked around like, ‘Man, why am I here?’ It was never anything like that. Kirk, from the moment he got in that locker room, he was nothing but a professional. He went about his business.”

The main issue for them right now is they’re tight against the cap, but they still have a strong roster. They may drop off a little this year, it’s natural for a SB champ to come back down to earth a little, but they’re still the easy favorite in the division |

They'll have to replace departing guys like that via the draft. Drafting has not been Roseman's strength. The hope would be their depth whittles away while they're stuck with some high dollar contracts. They could also make some tough decisions on high priced vets. Like should they keep Jason Peters? They could save a lot of cap space by parting ways. But that's not an easy guy to replace. Vaitai did well enough last year, but do you want him starting? And if you do, who will be the depth guy behind him? We just have to root for Roseman to F up the draft, then they'll fall back to Earth.

Of course there’s a luck element but you also have to be a good team, when was the last bad team that somehow lucked themselves into a SB win? |
