The NBA to fine players for flopping next season

ESPN - Fines will be imposed for clear cases of flopping - NBA
This could end up costing half of the Cleveland Cavaliers their entire '08-'09 salaries!
What will all the European and South American players do!!!

Good. Flopping in basketball is ruining the sport. Part of the reason I can't watch soccer anymore is it seems like every time there's contact some guy is rolling around on the ground, obviously faking, acting like his leg is broken.

If you're going to be a flopper, the least you can do is practice it so it looks realistic.

The NFL should do the same with kickers that flop anytime a defender breathes on them.

The only problem that I see with this is that it really won't make a difference during games. Teams like the Cavs and the Spurs will still get away with this crap if the refs keep on buying it and a couple of fines might not stop players from acting like they just got shot with a 12 gauge every time they're tapped.
I'd love to see a foul called on the flopper, but I guess that would be way too subjective to actually work.

that's what happens in the nhl. reverse penalty minutes, and i think it'd be a great way to stop it, cause flopping really does make watching games frustrating at times.

I can't imagine how this will really work out. Would you call someone that is trying to get a charge call a flop?
It is annoying that people flop though...I know you guys are high on the Cavs, but the worst out there for cheating then flopping is Rip Hamilton. He'll even tie up someone elses arms and then try getting the foul call.

That's going to be the toughest call to make (some say it already is). I think there is a big difference between "selling" a charge and "flopping" when the guy with the ball is backing you down, but it's one of those "call it as you see it" deals.
I'm guessing the players union isn't too happy about this.

They should have began this when John Stockton played.

Re: The NBA to fine players for flopping next season

While I am happy that they are finally trying to do something about flopping, I wish it was something more than a fine. Players aren't gonna care about the fine if it's a tight game and they have the opportunity to get 2 free free throws for their team. I hope they upgrade the rule so that a foul is called if you try and flop, that would be the only way to really stop players. I mean most of these guys are getting huge salaries, what's a couple of g's out your pocket so you can help your team win?

If this works somehow it will make the NBA more digestible.

I'm glad they at least realize it's a problem, thats a big step right there, whether this is the answer is doubtful.

Re: The NBA to fine players for flopping next season

this has got to be a joke. how are they going to determine it? and WHO is going to make the rulings? why not just make it a point of emphasis with the refs?

Good but I doubt they will fine LeBron.
