Well in a 3-4 scheme the NT and the DEs are supposed to occupy blocker and push the pocket. The job of a good 3-4 NT is to take up blockers and collapse the pocket, something that I don't think Cofield has done a lot.

I really don't have much complaints about Bowen or Carriker, but I think Cofield could do a better job at NT, the problem is that he isn't one, I think he would have made a helluva 3-4 DE though.

But in the end, I think discussions about the defense are a bit pointless, given the crappy offense we have. Unless you have an elite defense like Baltimore or Pittsbugh that can win games by themselves, a solid defense is not going win many games with a shitty offense.

As to the first point, exactly. As to the second, I love what Carriker has done, but Bowen has pretty much been a wash for the past month.

Re: Redskins Choose Tashard

Let's see, when the OL was healthy and blocking well our RB's were doing fine, Hightower, Torain, and Helu. The OL gets decimated and Hightower gets injured and now we need new RB's? Torain should still be healthy, Helu should still be healthy, they just picked up Tristan Davis for the PS prior to last weeks game ..... and now Choice. It seems like we have just as many RB's as WR's yet no thought to picking up more OL to start learning the scheme.

Bingo. Nailed it right there. Always makes sense to sign some intel to the roster. Lets just see f he is still there after the next game at FedEx.

I was always a fan of this guy. Works hard week in and week out and I hope he finds success, even if it is on a division foe. (same with Bowen was disappointed to see him leave)

But the fact is Choice had ONE good game and that was his rookie year when both Barber and Jones were limited with injuries. Since that game, he has been mediocre at best.

His release is another example of the GM letting Garrett put his fingerprint on the team. No one is more surprised than I. Garrett did not draft Choice, hence no sense of loyalty. Garrett has released a number of players, especially on the O-line and offense and has put "his" players in there.

The last 2 seasons, if Choice was not limping or gimping, he was putting the ball on the ground.

His last 2 touches is Dallas resulted in 2 fumbles lost. Dallas was shopping him at the trading deadline and there were interested teams. But they quickly stopped shopping him when Felix Jones came up injured (AGAIN, I don't call him Fragile Felix for nothing).

But the emergence of Murray made Choice expendable. Dallas needed to open a roster spot because they took Bruce Carter off the PUP. If Choice was not injured, I suspect they would have held on to him longer for insurance. But he could not be counted upon week in and week out.

However.....I think he can excel in the zone scheme that Shannahan is famous for. So I really hope he does well.

I think he is there on 3rd down for two reasons:
1. Torain is really suspect as a blocker if the defense blitzes on 3rd down

2. Helu has good hands should he be the outlet receiver. (Highly unlikely he will ever be the targeted receiver because the Redskins seem to be allergic to screen passes this year...)

Then he should get a lot of action, cause 3 and out is our favorite play. Its been a staple of our offense for years, its like the ol counter tre.

Soooo he could/should be tried as an everydown back? Helu also looks like our quickest RB and far quicker than Torain.

I don't see why we can't develop Helu into a Fred Jackson kinda RB

Because that will get in the way of Kyle Shanahan's passing attack.

The only way Helu could get enough plays to make an impact is if switched positions to wide receiver.

Re: Redskins Choose Tashard

Our RBs seemed to be solid and deep until TH went down, torain hasn't don't jack since the horrid rams D and Helu never gets carries so....
