Looking at the rest of the season...

It seems to me there are two different scenarios that we'll likely see play out. On the one hand the Skins are a team that typically play up or down to the opponent, so it's possible that while we don't win many more games we keep the scores relatively close. In the other scenario we see our Skins get blown out in at least half the remaining games, because 1) we face winning teams that play to win and 2) the problems on the oline can't be fixed any time soon and the offense just doesn't score more than 5-10 points/game through the rest of '09.

First of all I don't think the HC or starting QB will make much difference in determining which scenario is more likely, but nonetheless I think the outcome is really important and here's why: a season of blowouts likely puts as much pressure as possible on Snyder to make fundamental changes to the way he runs the Redskins, while a season of close losses probably allows him to maintain the same FO structure. Now, for those of us convinced the Snyder/Vinny FO situation is the root cause of our lousy predicament, it's actually pretty tempting to hope the little man in the owner's box is forced into giving up the reins, firing his weird little toady, and handing the team over to the best GM willing to take the job.

Discuss...

Re: Looking at the rest of the season...

Lol... the little toady. I want fundamental changes, back into a winning franchise, I don't care how we get there, but I want there to be hope next season, and for the future. Sacrificing two losing seasons for a continuously winning team is not a bad cost. Snyder has to want to change, if not we will continue to see this until he sells the team or dies.

I'm beginning to think the reason we go after all of these big-name free-agents is because the front office does not know how to properly draft players, so they compensate by going out and getting players that were once proven at the position. This problem is couched in the fact that we do not have a proper General Manager, thus when we do draft players its like throwing darts in the dark, sometimes you find gems like Chris Horton or Marko Mitchell, but you get a lot of busts, like Devin Thomas or Rod Gardner or Taylor Jacobs.

And there in lies the sad unfortunate reality! Plain & simple

Re: Looking at the rest of the season...

Zorn has lost all control of this team and despite all of his experience of playing in the nfl and in coaching, he isn't seasoned enough to change things around.

I was hoping that he was learning to be a head coach when he was with Seattle.

As far as snyder and cerrato are concerned, they seem to do well while judging talent on defense. But with offensive talent, they are horrible. Maybe instead of hoping that they get a traditional GM, which would probably be the best but unlikely decision, they should just hire someone in a position to evaluate and help with offensive players in the draft and free agency. And probably someone who can help with picking out an offensive minded head coach.

Re: Looking at the rest of the season...

I would start by playing Mason, Mitchell and benching Portis and ARE.

Oh. I'm watching it. The Eagles came in thinking this was going to be a cakewalk and got surprised.

I would agree with this. I also think that losing close, gives the illusion this team is close. At one point I thought we were. After today, not so much. This offense resembles the Bad News Bears more than a professional football team.

I hope you are right, what the skins need is someone to call them out like Pierce did the Raiders. Look what it did for them.
