Re: Commanders waive CB Danny Johnson
Typical Rivera move, let go of the better player for a lesser one.
Considering the Ravens invested a draft pick in Kelly it was a bit surprising that the team cut him. However, if you watched him on the field it was not a shock in any way. He was downright bad, and he could not move up the depth chart. The Ravens were starting Kevon Seymour over Kelly in the preseason, and they even cut Seymour. Seymour played better against better competition than Kelly throughout the summer, and reports are that Seymour will be back on the roster at some point. That is the other dynamic. The Ravens kept eight cornerbacks, and Seymour will be the ninth that got a roster spot over Kelly. Marlon Humphrey, Ronald Darby, Rock Ya-Sin, Ar'Darius Washington, Arthur Maulet, Pepe Williams, Brandon Stephens, Jalyn Armour-Davis, and Seymour all were higher on the depth chart than Kyu Blu Kelly. That says something about how low they thought of him and that they may not miss him. He even led the Ravens in special teams snaps, showing that the team gave him every shot. He also was the worst-graded special teamer, showing this decision makes sense. The decision makes sense now, but the decision to draft Kelly is obviously an all-timer in terms of how bad it was. Baltimore decided within a few months that he was not even going to be in their long-term plans. That says a lot.

Re: Commanders waive CB Danny Johnson
What am I missing? Hate to say it but he was a JAG. Just because he started some games and got some PT as a primary backup doesn't mean he's worth anything. By all accounts good person, but replaceable player.
We also have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. He might've fucked a coach's daughter or some shit that necessitated the move.

Kelly on his 4th team this year. They must have thought Johnson was essentially useless for this to make sense. Odd to me that the team is making any personnel decisions when the entirely leadership structure is so clearly gone in a few weeks.

Ah bit sad to read that, got to take a picture with him at FedEx field in 2018... JAG if you wanna say JAG but he found a way to stay on the roster by having some pretty solid games when he got to start. Especially the last couple of years he made some plays for us!
