Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I'd rather draft Anthony Richardson in the 1st round over giving Jackson some crazy ass contract.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
If Ron is to be gone, we need a new owner before the end of February else we're too close to the draft, then camp to change the staff without risking comprising the roster. Here's hoping.
Else we need Ron & Co. to realise the best option is to roll with Howell, sign a vet backup and draft a #3. Tag Payne if we can't re-sign him quickly. I'd love to keep him but understand if it makes more sense to trade him. I agree with clearing out the OL room rather than re-signing guys who would struggle to make any of the other 31 rosters, but that also means we need to pick up 2-3 guys in FA AND expend a few picks. I can't see another option that doesn't leave Howell behind a paper wall next year. I'd grab a CB and at least 1 LB in FA then draft same. I wouldn't draft a TE unless he's BPA. There are 2-3 adequate if not good FA options available as it stands. Beyond that it's draft BPA and see what else is affordable in FA. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Big money to a qb who makes his living by being a dual threat? What could go wrong.
/sarcasm in case it wasn't obvious. I don't want to pay big money to any qb who isn't a classic Manning/Brady/Rodgers/Mahomes/Allen clone.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I wouldn't expect nor want any massive move (especially at QB) this offseason unless we got a new regime up and running in time for the FA, which I don't see happening. 2024 is the fresh start. 2023 will be a weird transitioning season, hopefully Howell behind a fixed Oline can develop enough make the next regime want to go forward with him.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Sources: The #Raiders will begin the process of evaluating the trade market for QB Derek Carr, as they prepare for a decision on their QB for the future. This points to the possibility of Carr, who holds a no-trade clause and will be part of the process, leaving the organization.
Please say NO Ron

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Funny how fussy people are considering how QB starved this team has been for the last 30 years. Jackson - nah. Rodgers - nope. Carr - no way. Howell with one game under his belt - sign me up!
Pretty amazing stuff. It's going to be another long offseason. |

I'd rather have Howell, all of our current picks, and all of the money that going with Howell will free up to improve the rest of the roster, than getting either of those 3 guys. I don't think that's an insane position. I wouldn't cry over getting Rodgers or Jackson though. The Howell option is my preference, not an I'm going to lose it if I don't get my way situation. Barring injuries, we would be a guaranteed playoff team next year with either of them. I'd take Jackson over Rodgers if a choice between those 2, as you can craft an offense around him that Howell could also play in, if Jackson did have to miss some games (which has been the case in the past). And you can plan on building around Jackson for at least another 5 or so years. Carr, who knows, he looked a lot like Colts Wentz this year. The picks and the money aren't worth the risk to me for him.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Rodgers, Lamar, or Carr would be massive upgrades over anything we have. Both Rodgers and Lamar would have massive offensive weapons improvements over anything they've had in their respective teams. I would give Carr the benefit of the doubt, given the coaching staff he's had to deal with.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Carr will cost draft picks and most likely a 2nd rounder, is he better than Howell? Yes but is he that much better that we tarde picks for? IDK

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
There are costs to everything, including sitting on our hands while this defense that is built to win now goes to waste.
All I'm saying is I'd rather go with a high risk/high reward move vs hoping a 5th round rookie pans out. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Wed be lucky as hell to get Carr for our 2R.
Doubt he comes here w his no trade clause vs other destinations I just want a functional legit NFL QB while we still have Terry in his prime.

1. Lamar Jackson - Yes he was hurt this yr but the ravens have never given him any legit WRs, well we have those guys plus if Greg Roman comes it would be the best fit. 2. Justin Fields - He was a great passer in college so I know he has it in him, he's also a freak athlete that would be great to mix in with Brob and AG. 3. Derek Carr - He is a Tier 3 QB, pretty much a Dak , KC type QB. He will have a great game and the next 2 will be Avg at best. I just don't see that guy as a true winner and he's over 30 now. * I didn't put AR12 on here because I don't see him coming to DC *
