The Watson stuff seems like a whole of smoke, its going cost him $$$ in civil court but it has not gone to criminal court yet nor has he been charged with anything.

I mean you want win some games or be the squeaky clean losers.

Question.

You guys know football better than I. Is the Gibbs Paradigm dead? That is, can you not win with, let's say, a Mark Rypien behind a titanic O-line like the fabled Hogs?

I'd say the chances of getting a top 10 QB are considerably better than trying to recreate an all time great OL.

I want Watson walking in the stadium and the massage table set up in the middle of the locker room.

Really? Not saying your wrong, but the supply of decent linemen seems to be greater than top 10 QBs.

The 91 OL gave up 9 sacks all year, that's almost unheard of in the modern era.

Getting 5 elite players is harder than getting 1.

Offensive lines seem easier to build nowadays.

QBs are much more mobile.

Offensive coordinators seem to be able to get their primary reads open

Offensive schemes seems to be quick pass concepts and screens, screens and more screens neutralizing a pass rusher

Big guys are more athletic and plentiful. Theres always decent to good OL avail in FA age 28 and older

Re: 2022 off season thread part 1

WFT QBs were sacked over 40 times this year.

I think neither is really that easy to acquire - a top 10 QB / or an elite OL. Anyway, they complement each other. An OL can make the QB look better, and vice versa.

I'd put my efforts toward finding that top 10 QB, before trying to put together five O linemen that are all - say - top 10 at their position.

Re: 2022 off season thread part 1

Having read many of the responses, I kind of have to modify my opinion a little. I would like to see Sherff back but I am seeing the same things as we saw with Cousins. He says he wants to end his career here but has turned down every contract offer. I agree with the injury concerns several posters have and there is a point where the cost is not worth the investment.

Cousins did and said the same things. He was never going to stay in Washington and wanted to go to the Vikings. I stand corrected as to where Cousins went to college.

As for quarterback, Watson would be really, really expensive and really, really good. From a couple things I have read, I question whether he would come here willingly. I have read that he wants to go to Miami although I understand the coach he liked got fired. I also read that if that coach wound up in Philly, Watson would probably be headed there. In that case, Washington and New York could be occupying the bottom two places for many years to come.

I hope they dump Samuels. He has been a wasted acquisition.

Re: 2022 off season thread part 1

Scherff is gone. It is what it is.

I wouldn't dump Samuels, but I would draft a WR.

I would say Watson is not out of the question, but it does sound like his preference is Miami. I don't understand why (or believe) he will just follow Flores wherever he goes - should he get another HC gig.

Until I hear otherwise I have to believe that Rodgers and Wilson are in play. They have to be and should be. They are all long shots, and probably return to their respective teams. If they can't lure one of those three, then go after tier two (Carr, Ryan, Garrapolo, Winston) and draft a QB after Round 1.

If they do this, I'll be happy. If they aren't big players in any trade/free agent opportunity for one of the "big 3", then I'll be pretty disappointed.

First things first though, get Scary Terry under a long term deal. That would help lure a QB.

Re: 2022 off season thread part 1

I'd accept Ryan because he'd hopefully be walking in behind a good to great OL (which they've struggled to provide him in Atlanta), and you know with the right guys to throw to he's still go t2+ years in the tank. If you can sign someone like him, then the pressure is reduced to find a franchise QB in this draft. Wait until '23. But I firmly believe Carr stays in LV, Rodgers stays in GB, Wilson stays in Seattle if Carrol is still there, and Watson probably won't talk to us (plus I agree it's not a good look for a team with our troubles employing an alleged sex offender). I think Garrapolo would be a band aid and no better than Fitz would have been; look at the offensive weapons he's had in SF and he hasn't exactly shone. I'd actually suggest Winston will stay in NO, as neither of his backups are the answer and he actually looked good before he got hurt. If he doesn't I'd consider him, but again, he's just a band aid until we can draft our guy.

Re: 2022 off season thread part 1

IF Jimmy G ( or any of the others in his category)had started the season with us would we have made the playoffs ? I ask because we only missed by 2 games and had a bad start with the D.. just trying to figure out if a middle of pack QB can at least get us in the mix until we can draft the Guy..
