I tend to agree. I think the whole John Beck thing is pretty silly. The Shanny's endorse him as a player (but never said he was a starter), then Beck starts talking to the media like he's the guy, and at the end of the day, Grossman beats him out like we all should have expected.

If Rex stays healthy (which could be hampered by our average at best O-line and lack of O-line depth), he'll start all year.

You know what could happen though- it could be a repeat of 2010 with Rex in the McNabb role, albeit with less controversy. Rex's play is up and down, we're out of the playoffs, and Beck gets a 3 or 4 game test drive to see what we have...

I think they legitimately believe in Beck, perhaps with a full offseason things would have been different.

I think he'll start every game he's healthy until a long term replacement we draft is ready to take over

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start

I'm playing the percentages and saying 1-5. I have no idea what is going to happen at the QB position, but when you balance the risk of injury with John Beck lurking, there's too much that can go wrong.

By far the best chance of a burgundy and goal postseason is that Rex hits the ground with a 3 TD day against New York and holds the job most of the season starting 13+ games and relegating Beck to second team and spot start duty all year. This is a best case outcome: Rex plays well and Rex plays often.

But too much can go wrong that results in Rex starting 5 or fewer games. The QB debate isn't over, even though I just don't see anyway I'm sitting at the end of the year wondering why I never believed in John Beck.

Rex starts 16 games unless he gets hurt. Even if Bad Rex shows up a few times during the season, Grossman will be consistent enough that Mike won't feel the need to bench him the way he did McNabb.

11+ unless theres a major injury or terrible QB play, he's in. both guys are seat warmers for the starting QB we just don't have yet though.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start

Considering Shanny benched a franchise, Pro Bowl caliber QB w/o much hesitation my intuition is Rex doesn't have much of a leash either. I think if he sucks it up in two of the six early games Beck will get a shot. Worst case scenario is the starter changes more than once during the season, which I could see happening given Shanny's ego and penchant for throwing curve balls at his players.

Honestly I don't see much connection between Mike and either QB. Don't forget Mike has never developed a QB. Elway was already, well...Elway. Cutler plays at about the same level regardless of coach or team. We're sitting on a guy in Beck who needs a coach like Peyton to mentor him. Rex needs...I have no idea what he needs lol.

I hope we can run the ball all season!!!!

Rex needs protection period I'm sure Beck would need it too, but I think a good o-line will result in good Rex showing up.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start

I would hope that if Rex starts throwing a bad game Kyle will change up the play calling to relieve some of the pressure with runs, screens and short dump offs. I know we'll see some INT's no matter what but Rex has been around long enough no to get too frazzled.

Re: How Many Regular Season Games Will Rex Grossman Start

Is the real question, "How many games will the OL will allow Grossman to start before he's hurt?".

This. I think next year's qb of the future is currently residing on an NCAA roster somewhere.
