The Redskins remain a bit concerned about the toe injury that plagued wide receiver Laveranues Coles through much of the second half of the '03 season and which limited him in mini-camps during the spring. Coles did not have surgery, is counting upon rest and orthopedic devices in his shoes to help the problem, and will take it easy early in camp.

"When I first walked in, and I saw the coaching staff, I kind of thought it was the reunion from (the movie) Cocoon! I said, 'There's no way these guys are going to be able to hold up.' But we got out there on the field, and I'll tell you what, they have more energy than any coaching staff, probably since Penn State, that I have been around. They showed that they know what they're talking about. They know what they want us to do and they know how to get us to do it. You can't hold anything against that." -- Washington linebacker LaVar Arrington, addressing the age of some of the assistants on Joe Gibbs' staff.

he did play thought the injury last year, when it was a lot worse. So mabye after a few months of being careful with it, it will probably be healed come september. Then he will probably just protect it with some expensive shoe to keep it from being easily reinjured. Coles is a tough guy though, he'll keep playing even if its bothering him.

Coles is the type of a guy to play with one leg. but that doesn't mean he'll play near his best, which is what we really need from him now more than ever

yeah, losing him or having him at 50% would be a major loss, he really is top flight, only without the ego

Coles was an idiot and opted to be a backup for the Pro Bowl instead of surgery. If this affects us during the year I'm going to be somewhat upset.

Coles is tough, he'll be out there. There's no way he would jeopardize an entire season over the Pro-Bowl. He should be even more effective now that our qbs will have time to throw the ball. At times last year it just looked like he could not be covered.

Coles would be a loss, but even if he goes down in Training Camp or preseason for any length of time, or must play at less than 100%, I'll be looking for Cliff Russell to show us what he has.

I would be surprised if Cliff Russell even makes the practice squad. I don't think we have to worry too much about Coles. He's proven that he's a real player. He'll be there. Let's not forget that we have decent depth at WR. Thrash, McCants, Jacobs.
