Fans will throw a shit fit if we draft an Edge rush in the first round after getting rid of our two high end edge rushers to get the draft pics in the first place

That first round pick will be a QB, unless the new coaching staff gets one in free agency.

I can't see a scenario where: Howell plays lights out, the team continues to lose, the current coaching staff gets fired, and a new coach is willing to bet on Howell as a starting QB.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

I gotta say - we're coming off a performance where a Commies qb threw for almost 400 yards and 4 td's in a loss and there are numerous quality comments saying qb will be the first pick next year - ignoring that we're most likely to end up around the middle of the first round where we're always at under Ron.

It's insane to me that some people here have given up on Howell 9 games into his pro career. It took Kirk Cousins at minimum half a season in his 4th? year before shit clicked and he led the greatest comeback in Redskins history.

Next coaching staff better go BPA in the first round, this team has way too many holes to think otherwise.

I wouldn't get that. You trade 2 of them, they need to be replaced somehow. And this guy we would have for at least 4 years at a way lower salary than either of what Sweat or Payne will have next season.

I want the PSU or ND OT, but they are always already gone by our pick.

If we are picking where we are now, it will all be moot, because the top guys will already be gone. No way I'm betting on a 2nd tier guy over Howell with all the other holes we have.

My top 3 choices would be Drake Maye, Olu Fashanu, and Joe Alt.

If Howell continues to improve and the team starts winning, do you think Rivera and company gets fired?

If Howells plays well, but the team is still losing, and Rivera and co. get fired, do you think a new coach is going to go all in on Howell? I highly doubt that.

Personally, I think that was one of the biggest flaws that we've had when Jay and Ron were hired: they were told to work with an existing QB and were not given the resources to draft their own QB. That needs to change IMO.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Can't rule out a new GM/HC coming in here and going all out to get their guy at QB, whether that's trading up in the draft, free agency, trading for a vet, etc. In fact that scenario is more likely than not, no matter what Sam does the rest of the way.

Sam really has to kill it these last 10 games to make that a tougher decision for the next GM/HC.

i think we have decent enough replacements that we can do 2nd or 3rd round edge . . . even after the trades we still need oline, linebacker and corner far more than DE . . . and we don't even know what defensive base we will run next year, if we switch to a 3/4 does that guy even fit?

He was the best player available and at a position of need. The other guys we have are career back-ups. No way we don't add someone for 2024. Now, it might not be a 1st rounder, but that pick made sense in the draft I was in.

As a Wisconsin alum and season ticket holder, please please please say no to Jack Nelson.

He is not good at all. Feet of stone.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread

Sam can put the QB talk to rest and I hope he does. A lot of games to be played. But even if he is lights out, you still have to draft a QB. Maybe grab a guy in the mid rounds.

Gotta put the pieces around him w/ a couple stud linemen, another TE and a OC that will run the ball and not put 50+ pass attempts on him. When he has played his best it's been as good as anyone.
