Why is Alex Smith the number 2?

There is no way in hell I want him on the field

They asked Ron about that and he said "He knows the system and he's been cleared"

Well if the story about a QB with Covid antibodies has any merit Haskins might not be able to suit up.

He was on the field today so that wouldn't make sense

My understanding is that if you have the antibodies, that means that you have had the disease, but no longer do. If that is so, the player with the antibodies does not currently have the virus, and there would be no reason to not allow him to suit up. Am I misunderstanding what having the antibodies means?

Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

"We have four of them and one of them fortunately has the antibodies so that kind of helps us a little bit," the coach said. "We try to keep him away from everybody else as much as possible and let them go about their business."

The team's four quarterbacks are Dwayne Haskins, Kyle Allen, Alex Smith and practice squader Steven Montez.

Rivera's comments came via the Washington Football Talk podcast, and asked directly which QB tested positive for the antibodies, the coach wouldn't budge.

"I'm not allowed to say. One of our guys does."

Ideally none of this will matter for Washington this season and the team will get through the remainder of the season without a positive COVID test. If that changes, however, at least Washington will have a player at QB that's familiar with the offensive system.

I took it as Ron saying its a good thing that one of them has it bc if there is an outbreak, at least you will have 1 QB who might not get it.

I do not understand the "try to keep him away" part but I assume its an abundance of caution bc there is still a lot of unknowns with COVID because while he is testing negative ... you just dont know. Just me guessing.

By deduction .. it appears to be Steven Montez.

Antibodies just means exposure. If you have a high enough count then you can reduce the virus to insignificant levels. I don’t know his count but as Okie pointed out he is on the field so he must be cleared

Agree.
He looked slow and out of shape at the combine. He did not look like an athlete.
Looked like he should be driving an icecream truck.
According to heavy.com Haskins ran among the slowest 40 time for a QB in NFL history.

That's anti-bodies, not a positive covid test . . . means he had it before and has gotten over it, so that would not be part of this decision.

Antibodies means he's had the virus at some point, not that he has it. If he passed a C19 swab test he isn't contagious, and if he caught it during the offseason away from the team he never put it at risk. More so, if he never knew he had it then it's not a reason in itself to treat him any differently. I don't care which of them has had it, I'm concerned if any of them get it before the seasons over.

Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

I'm interested to see how it goes. Allen is nothing special and the team overall needs to play better. Coaches need to coach and adjust better and make better decisions of you're playing to "win", too. Haskins ... I dunno I got fed up when he wasn't benched at halftime in Cleveland... And last week, too. But I guess let em play 4 games and if he's not progressing - bench'em.

Best of luck to us this week.

Re: Kyle Allen named the starter

Shocked more about Smith backing up Allen than Allen starting. Honestly this is the best thing for Haskins. If anything it inspires him and if the other two look just as bad than he can have the rest of the year to try n salvage his job without worrying about it. Im super hopeful that Smith gets in there and plays well. What a great story. Allens QBR was a 38 last year. Lol. Which is 8 points better than Haskins league low 30.
Now we might get some sort of measuring stick on DH though. If Allen or Smith plays well than we know it isn’t all the rest of the offense. Especially Allen. If either guy looks real good for any period of weeks than Haskins days are numbered.

Dan Orlovsky is sort of an idiot. I always thought that not just because of this comment. I mean it all boils down to play and Haskins has been the worst in the league. Of course it is about play.
I mean his attitude and commitment might mean something but idc what you do in practice. You keep shitting the bed in games. your done.
