Re: 1st 2023 NFL Draft Thread

The bears are in a very interesting spot.

This is how a middle of the road QB can really hurt the franchise.

Do they draft QB with that first pick or do they hold on to Justin?

Haskins did it to us, if we had not drafted him we probably would have looked at Tau/ Herbert more.

If I'm a Bears fan, I'm hoping someone really wants Bryce Young and the Bears trade down.

If a better QB is there you take him.

Fields has some promise but he still has a long way to go to develop as a pocket passer. They could probably get a nice pick for him in a trade.

Re: 1st 2023 NFL Draft Thread

The issue with Chicago is , they need almost every position on offense... Bryce Young isn't Joe Burrow, he's good but not special like that. I keep JF and build around him like Buffalo did Allen

The biggest mistake would be keeping the 1st pick and JF.

They got get trade assets from one of those two because they have so many holes.

HOU will prob trade up to get BY, and it won't cost them that much

Re: 1st 2023 NFL Draft Thread

The value for a QB is so much higher than any other position in football.
No reason to focus on another position if you don’t have a proven QB.

The bears would be foolish not to upgrade their QB.

Because we have a lame duck coach, I don’t recommend trading up.
If there is a guy at 16 that looks better than Howell, we need to draft him.

Luckily for the Howell fan club, which I'm a part of, there won't be. So we can fix the rest of the holes and see what Howell has.

Using picks and FA to fix the remaining holes, even if it turns out Howell sucks all the balls, isn't a terrible thing.

We'll likely have a whole new regime. Draft a QB in 2024 and plug him into a good football team.

With our whole organization in a weird lameduck year, it's like the perfect opportunity to try out a young QB with potential.

Disclaimer - If Snyder doesn't sell, everything we talk about until 2023 week 1 is irrelevant.

The kid from Florida will probably be there when we pick and I would do a hard pass on him.

He needs to be picked by a team with an established starter that he can sit behind for a 1 or 2. That ain't us. He'd actually be a good fit for the Packers if they keep Rodgers. Packers will have to pick up the 5th year on Love's contract or let him go after 2023. Can't see them signing him to a fat contract without enough tape to make that choice.

He (Richardson) just doesn't fit with what we need. I'm curious to see how his career plays out. He has the physical talent to be successful.

Re: 1st 2023 NFL Draft Thread

Every mock I try the only time a QB falls to us as BPA is 3rd round or after. For me, with SH already pencilled in as #1 I can't help thinking that using anything higher than another 5th on QB would involve a poor value trade up or picking a guy unlikely to be the answer at a position where we could grab more valuable help elsewhere. I can't help thinking we get FA vet help (not TH) as a #2 that can challenge SH and then pick up another project with a 5th or lower. Given CB, OL and LB are our greatest needs, I say fill those and wait on a 1st round QB until next year. Especially if SH proves he can cut it. We're not going silly in FA, especially if a sale isn't finalised by the draft, so pick up at least 1 starting level CB and 2 OL and BPA for the rest and I'd be happy. I say if we trade for or waste a pick on a QB reach it'll be back to square 1 again next year.

Fields is essentially a RB that occasionally throws the ball.

Re: 1st 2023 NFL Draft Thread

There is one intriguing QB I would draft as high as the 4th round, Dorian Thompson Robinson from UCLA.
