The cap hit on cutting Bowen (remember we outbid his old team Green Bay on an offer sheet) pretty much assures that he is with us this season and probably next.

damn Matt Bowen that sorry mf. a waste of salary cap space. How are we gonna get better with dead weight on the roster. Let him go take the cap hit we got Taylor.

Everyone wants to cut Bowen but I really don't see it happening. Mainly because we do we have to start at his spot? Lott with Franz as a backup? Yikes.

I'm not a big fan of Bowen myself but I wouldn't feel comfortable letting him go with what's behind him.

Bowen signed a 4-year deal for 6 million - 1.6 million signing bonus. That's not too prohibitive if we want to cut him. I think we'd only take a .8 million dollar cut (haven't the bonuses for 2004 been assessed already?)

Yeah I'm with that guy. Bowen is way better than a guy like Franz or Clark. Lott could be better than Bowen in the long run, but I personally still feel bowen is better. I think cutting him would be uttlerly rediculous, personally.

Yes but read my post. MAYBE we might cut Bowen (Very limited dead money on cap, plus we have to take a hit on the cap someday, Just say Deion, shall I refresh memories) and possibly pick up somebody on the waiver wire. This is possbile if you know Cerrato

Now that we have seen what a great safety (Sean Taylor) brings to a defense, I now realize how bad our other safeties have been.
What disappoints me more than anything about Bowen's style of play is he is too reactive and not proactive enough. He seems to always be a step behind every play. That is why his interceptions and solo tackles totals are so low. You almost never see him sniff out a play, anticipate and pounce on a play. Any half decent Strong Safety has to be able to do this. His on field brain skills are lacking. For a safety that has been in the NFL for 5 years, he should be better at this stage of his career.
Give him one more season to see if he will finally develop. But if he doesn't, it will be time to cut him.

Not to disagree about MB's impact at safety, 'cause I don't - he came with lots of promise but hasn't lived up to it. However, may some of the problem in his recognition and instinct be caused from playing FS as opposed to SS (or is it the other way around)?

I know we have had this posted several times but I still get confused as to the different qualities needed by a SS versus a FS. Is it possible to be a poor SS but a good FS or vice versa? Or are the skill sets so similar as to make such a distinction practically irrelevant?
