Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

This is definitely f'd up. I'm not so much concerned about how we'll make up the cap space as I am about the fact a bunch of loser-ass crybaby owners ganged up on us and The Rog essentially did their bidding. I'm definitely not an expert on any stretch but I think we can all agree this reeks of collusion, and the league is basically punishing us for not colluding with the rest of the owners. I hope the Redskins file some sort of legal proceedings that would enable us to get the fine lowered or something. It's pretty ridiculous.

Yes. I am lawyer, but labor law is a world unto itself in many ways and not my area of expertise. At the same time, for all the reasons stated in this thread, it seems to me to be a clear violation of the prior CBA and collusion among the owners to avoid the ramifications of their prior agreement.

Further, has a negative impact on the current players. As someone else already stated, the Skins had money in hand and were ready to spend. I think the current NFLPA should be pretty upset about this as it is harmful to the current UFA's out there.

Not sure what, if any, the legal recourse is for the Skins. Maybe an injunctive action alleging that the NFL is punishing them for not acting illegally.
all other teams aside from the saints, raiders and cowboys will all receive a check from the redskins. thats the reason the nflpa went along with this, the money still gets spent just not by us. so we are giving the giants and the eagles botha bout 1.5 million for them to spend in free agency, you can go ahead and vomit now.

A reverse seems unlikely. But the NFLPA likely would not complain about a lessening of the penalty now that the salary cap has been set.

Aaaaaaaaand here is the answer to my own question:

All NFL contracts are approved by the NFL Management Council. Curious that there is now punishment for these contracts.

From what I've seen the teams can spread it as they determine over the next two years. Either way this is a kick squarely in the nuts.

We've been saving those owners from diaster by taking those overpaid and overrated free agents off the market and this is how the repay us.

A tweet about possible restructures...

Grant Paulsen ‏ @granthpaulsen
If #Redskins end up asking some of higher-paid plyrs to re-structure, Trent Williams could be candidate. '12 cap number is team-high $14 MM.

Anyone know our contract exposure for 2013? If I recall we limited most guarantees past 2011 so maybe they can take a $10 mil hit now and rework things over the next 12 months to account for their remaining $26 mil.

So at this point, it's 100 percent factual that the Haynesworth signing was the worst signing in the history of football? It's no longer just opinion. I mean, that contract is bordering on being worse than not drafting Michael Jordan with the first pick in the NBA draft.

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space

So the cheaper owners finally found a way to take some skin off of Danny and Jerry. **** it.

I'm with Matty: every time the league or the press or whoever try to stop us from spending lots of money, we find a way to do it. We have the most creative money people in the biz. We'll find a way to get ours. This is the one thing we've been consistently good at over the last decade.

Wonder how the next owners meeting is going to go?
