Mac Jones is the NFL backup that can come in and hold the fort down but not a 16 game starter.

Like a lot have said Heinike comes back and I also bring back Allen. Alex retires. The Stafford talk I think is just that. I think he stays put simply cause their new coach will probably want to keep him. Just watching him against us he still is an elite thrower/passer. You give him a line and weapons and he can still put up 5,000 yards. Why would you trade him? Who is going to give up a ton for a QB in his 30's? Just don't see it.
If Ron likes one of the top guys enough we could always trade up if one of them falls a few spots past where people thought they’d go. Every year you know there’s some team (or a couple that make a surprise, squirrelly pick). If we can trade up from 19 into the teens if a guy falls, I see that being a possibility.

Watson isn’t going to be traded unless it’s Miami, he said that’s where he wants to go (well his team said that)

Unless we trade for Stafford or some how sign Dak, it’s going to be a vet option like Mariota or Carr if he’s let go.
When I first heard the name pop-up, I was against Mariota. But he would be a great fit for our offense. I wouldn't mind rolling with him/Heinicke/Allen next year, and building up the rest of the team through FA/draft.

Are we talking about a Ryan Tannehill type career resurrection?

This is an idea I like a lot. We would have three decent QB's competing for playing time next year, all of whom can fit our offense and we'll also be covered for any injuries at the position. That's a good thing.

Next season will be only the second year of our team build. There is no reason to throw away cap space on a FA or draft capital on a rookie QB. We can wait to land our "franchise" QB.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

Only caution I have is Mariota had a good coaching structure in Tenn and was average. Just look at what they've done with Tannehill, who was pretty much wasted under Gase. Mariota was above average in 3.5 of 5 seasons with the Titans and benched in favour of Tannehill who then took off. Same systems different results and at least 1 season with the same weapons. I personally wonder if Mariota peaked after season 2 and we'd actually get sub par Mariota from his last 4 seasons? I certainly wouldn't pay him #1 money to come here, not to start with.

Mariota also has injury concerns, seemed like he was always hurt there. He'd be my last resort

I'm not confident in Mariota as a starter either.

Not interested in Mariota. He turns the ball over too much, just like Fitz"magic".

Trade #19 for Stafford, or bring in Tyrod Taylor. Both scenarios for me have them drafting a QB to develop either in 2021 or 2022.

I get the Tyrod , VA connection but lets be real... He's not very good. He never throws the ball downfield so he's another Alex Smith but not as accurate... No thanks

I think if you do some research, you'll find that his career completion percentage is on par with Alex, and he throws the ball down the field more than Mariota, Smith, and Dalton - per Pro Football Reference stats, and he's mobile.

This is an old article, but sums up his capabilities:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...off-contention

Give him some weapons, a good running game and this defense, and it could be a nice recipe in my opinion. It wouldn't break the bank, and you keep all your draft picks.

Seriously, now many changes does one guy get? He's looking for a 5th team now.

If Shanny was still here and we needed a backup for RG3, Tyrod would work.

Not now.

Re: WFT Quarterback Thread - Post SEASON 2021

I’d sign Mariotta, Tyrod, Dalton, keep Allen and Heinicke and draft someone. Hell you get 90 guys for the offseason, sign as many guys as you can and see who sticks. We HAVE to solve the QB issue. I’m thinking the more guys you bring in the better.

He's not any good man, time to bury that possibility

LOL, ok. How many chances?...but let's bring in Fitzpatrick who has played for 25% of the league.

Tyrod has been a victim of some unfortunate circumstances to be honest. Regime change in Buffalo - traded to Browns to be their starter who turned to Baker after one bad game, brought in by the Chargers to be their starter then the team Dr. pierces his lung giving him a pain shot for his fractured ribs...

He's not Deshaun Watson...I'm just saying if you don't want to break the bank, don't want to give up draft picks, want someone who doesn't turn the ball over, is a dual threat, can throw the ball down the field, is relatively young, and has a winning record, he just might be your guy.

Well, I guarantee you he won't remain in LA as the backup to Herbert. Someone will bring him in to compete for the starting role - Colts, 49ers, Broncos, Bears...
