Re: 2009 Practice squad

I think it's funny, I have not figured out how the system works?

Lose an OG hire a RB
Lose a OT hire a QB
Lose a RB hire a LT
Lose a TE hire a FB
Lose a RB hire a QB
Lose a DE hire a WR

The problem with the Skins is they view the PS as a place to keep the extra players instead of the place to keep and develope young talent.

I don't agree with that statement. Last year, when we had relatively few injuries, the skins did not initiate many practice squad changes. practice squad turnover was created almost entirely by other teams wanting to sign our PS players to the active roster. Conversely, this year, we've suffered a rash of injuries. When players get hurt and/or IRed, we're forced to adjust the practice squad accordingly. We've also elevated players from our PS to the active roster almost every year. I dont see how the skins utilize their practice squad as being remotely wrong or any different from that of any other team.

Re: 2009 Practice squad

Um, only last yr did anyone take from our practice squad and that was a Lineman I believe. There might have been a second to be taken but prior to that there have been little as far as other teams taking our players.

I understand, You lose a OL most teams would bump someone up from the practice squad and bring another OL in to fill the vacancy. We have not done that this yr. We lost an OL and a RB was brought in, Alridge. We lost the LT and Mason was brought in. We lose Portis and Levi Jones was brought in. We lose TE Cooley and they bring in a FB.

In other words they are not replacing position for position. Only 1 or 2 players came from the practice squad this yr. The rest came from off the team. So my statement is not as that far off....especially for this yr.

Re: 2009 Practice squad

Teams typically don't replace a position for a position when it comes to the practice squad. It's a developmental unit, it's not a backup for guys you lose to IR.

Your list can't be complete...there's no punter scenario.

It WAS lose Punter, demote Cooley, but then Cooley was lost and threw the entire system off.

They're more likely to put someone in active roster that can start or make a contribution, so it's not always position for position.

Press Release: REDSKINS SIGN JAMES ROBINSON TO PRACTICE SQUAD; RELEASE KEITH ELOI - EXTREMESKINS.com

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release

December 8, 2009

REDSKINS SIGN JAMES ROBINSON TO PRACTICE SQUAD; RELEASE KEITH ELOI

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed wide receiver James Robinson to their practice squad. To make room on the practice squad, the Redskins released wide receiver Keith Eloi.

Robinson (6-3, 200) has spent parts of the 2009 season on both the Cleveland Browns’ and Miami Dolphins’ practice squads. He signed as a member of the Browns’ practice squad on Nov. 18, but was released on Dec. 1. Robinson originally entered the NFL as a free agent with the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 10, but was later released on Sept. 5. He re-signed with the Dolphins’ practice squad on Sept. 7, but was released on Nov. 3.

Robinson will wear jersey No. 14. He played collegiately at Butler (Kan.) Community College.

Eloi was signed to the Redskins’ practice squad on Dec. 2.

Maybe Eloi can be brought back under the new management and hopefully developed.
