Redskins - Eagles Post Game Thread

As we say our farewell to our 2018 Redskins Hopes & Dreams, this seems like an appropriate place to start.

We can make plenty of excuses for Sanchez, losing Jonathan Cooper, etc. on offense.

Defense has no excuses. We have talent there. The scheme sucks and our weaknesses are exposed every week. That's on Jay Gruden.

Having 1 backup for 2 guard positions - that's on Jay Gruden.

Lack of adjustments on D - that's on Manusky, and by extension Jay Gruden.

For the love of Christ teach our D they can only go for the strip if they gang tackle, when it's 1 on 1 I'm tired of seeing our guys go for the strip only to fail at the tackle.

Fire Bruce Allen. Fire Jay Gruden. Fire whoever the goddamn strength and conditioning coach is. Fire everybody.

Re: Redskins - Eagles Post Game Thread

This was a 1 point game entering the 4th... sure doesn't feel like it now.

Some random thoughts:

+

AP

Decent pass pro considering we lost both our back up gards during the game

Loved Foster stop early in the game and his coverage on Josh’s INT

Loved Brown stop on 4th and goal too

Doctson had some nice catches

Reed's effort to get the 1st down late in the 2nd was something we rarely see from him

-

Injuries Colt, Cooper... this is just too much to overcome for this team

Norman, a part from the pick he had a bad game, I don't get why they play him on pressed man coverage that much, he's a soft zone CB...

HHCD... Enough with this guy... such a disappointment: pathetic angle again on Sproles TD late in the 2nd, then waiting on Tate rather trying to tackle for a little gain in the 4th...

Where was the pass rush?

About the above, on the play just before Norman’s pick: 3rd down play and our DTs were Tim Settle and #99 Caleb Brantley... really? I get that lately we've been rotating our Dlinemen way more than early in the season, and Tim Settle is playing really well... But this is getting our of hand, and it doesn't seem to be working... On key situations don't you want your best 11 on the field?!

Not gonna hate on TW but I really didn't like that he missed the block on the trick play early in the 4th where Reed threw it back to CT on 3rd down. That was a 1st down.
If your best players don't make plays they're supposed to make you're not going to overcome adversity. At that point it was a 12 points game with 10:20 to go, this offense needed a spark and instead it's a 3 and out... Disappointing.

Heck... still hoping to see a W at FedEx on Sunday...

FWIW: On the Jordan Reed to Chris Thompson pass play, Trent Williams was trying to make up for someone else's miss on the block. He nearly got it, too. Was not his man.

that being said, can you name any perennial pro bowler players on this roster right now? It is a kind of a catch 22 situation, would the roster look better with better coaches are are they getting the most out of a limited group. I dont really know.

Yeah that was Reed's guy... he blocked him for about 0.0002 seconds... pathetic effort, but you expect Trent to be a football player and react better than that, he has absolutely nobody else to block.
Again, not gonna spend time crucifying TW over it, Trent is one of the rare bright spots of this offense.

I just feel like it says something about this team that one of your best players cannot make this play in a somewhat crucial spot.

John Keim is literally the only bright spot for me on ESPN right now. The dick riding last night was pretty fierce. Who knew Witten and Ertz were practically BFF's?

Re: Redskins - Eagles Post Game Thread

Defense has been rough. They have not been able to stop anybody. I know it was 14 points going into the 4th but the Eagles had absolutely zero problems moving the ball.

The offense is anemic and you can't blame Sanchez for that frankly the game plan for this team going into the season was TOP control with a running game and that just hasn't been the case for a while. Personnel is not built for it and Gruden doesn't call it.

Re: Redskins - Eagles Post Game Thread

My only refrain is fire gruden.

This team has talent but when your coach doesnt know how to call plays, get the team ready for big games, manage games, have a strength and conditioning regimen that protects players, win down the stretch, be creative in 2nd halfs, score on the first drive of the second half (said yesterday its been 24 games since we scored on our first possession in the 2nd half ). Then The coach has to go.

Its not front office, its jay effing gruden and the staff including d coordinater that he picked.

It is the front office as well as Jay Gruden. The front office hires the coaches. The front office makes the decisions not to re-sign Kirk Cousins. The front office makes the decisions to sign Ruben Foster. The front office makes the decision to give up a few first rounders for RGIII. The list goes on and on. I'm sorry, but Bruce Allen needs to be fired along with Jay Gruden, and sadly to say, Greg Manusky as well. Keep various position coaches like Jim Tomsula and let the new coach decide if he wants to keep those guys or not. But Bruce Allen has had 10 years to help build a contender, and the Redskins have played two post season games - and have lost both. They're terrible in prime time games. They go from 5-2 to 6-6, and play terrible at home. While injuries can be a freak thing, I start to wonder how can one team be bitten by the injury bug so severely and frequently? I can give a pass for one year of terrible injuries, but two years in a row riddled with season ending injuries? Strength and conditioning sucks.

Techniques suck. Look how bad the defensive tackling is. Watching the Vikings/Patriots game the other night, one big thing stood out to me that I don't see with our defense. The Patriots defensive guys were wrapping up the guys they were tackling. The solo tackles were successful, because they wrapped the guy up. The Redskins don't try to wrap the guy up when they tackle. They try to hit first, strip the ball, and the last resort is to wrestle the guy down after he's gained an additional 5 yards. It's pathetic. This team will be no better than 7-9 by the end of the season. It's time for everyone to go.

If BA is fired I'm not going to cry, but DS is always going to have a Vinny Cerrato/Bruce Allen type in his circle. And BA hasn't been terrible in it. The problem is that if you have a fire and brimstone type coach there will be conflicts and FO drama, which leads us back to a Jay Gruden type coach.

Pretty much the 9th circle of hell for football fans.

I'll just say this. If anyone was pinning hopes on Jonathan Cooper, you have some low aspirations.

Cooper never lived up to his first round selection. And he is on his third team in 3 years. That alone should tell you something.
