LaVar in the top 50

Have you guys seen the latest issue of SI? According to it, LaVar is the 29th highest paid pro athlete in the U.S. (counting salary, bonuses, endorsements, and appearance fees)

With salary and bonuses of $16,040,000 and $500,000 in endorsements and appearance fees LaVar is the second highest paid NFLer, trailing only Peyton Manning (#4). If LaVar got his bonus he'd jumped to #14

#1 is Tiger Woods. $6.6 million in salary and bonuses. $70 million in endorsements and appearance fees

He was 3rd behind Shaq. This must be an american only list. I would think Micheal Schumacher would be on there somewhere(a few years his earnings were higher than Jordons even when MJ was with the Bulls) and David Bechham.

Yeah they only counted U.S. citizens. Otherwise, according to SI, Schumacher would have been no. 2 with $71 million. Also on the list would have been David Beckham ($30 million) and Jaromir Jagr ($14 million)

Lavar can officially stop crying then. Will he argue that he is the second best player in the NFL?

BleedBurgundy,
You beat me to the punch about Lavar. What the hell is he crying about? Is it really the money figure he wants or is it he wants to be the highest paid player.?.? Ego Ego!

Here's a question (and keep in mind that I live in Europe, so be gentle)- Is Lavar a very visible athlete off the field? In keeping with his status as the #2 player money-wise, I would expect him to be all over commercials and advertisements. Now I know for a short while he was in agreement with the NFLPA but that he now says they don't have permission to market his name... Ok, I just realized that I don't know what the current status is on the whole "situation." Can anyone update me?

He has not settled with the NFl & NFLPA to allow them to market his name or jersey.
It should be resolved before the start of this season.
He is not highly visible either. I don't know if that is his doing, or just that not many wealthy companys want Lavar as their spokesman. He did work as a judge on an ESPN talent search show. So he was paid to be on TV for a few weeks on that show.

However, I should not put down Lavar so much... on the field no Redskin gives more than Lavar.
He is one tough player who regularly plays hurt and puts the team first over his own health.
He wants nothing more than to have the Redskins be a winner. His willingness to quickly renegotiate his contract to help out the Redskins cap problems last year is proof. He did it so we could sign more talent. Chris Samules needs to do the same.
Samuels is going to count $8.5M this year. The highest on the team.

LaVar was on a McDonalds commercial last year. He's pretty highly visible in the DC area because the area sportscasters often go to him first for soundbites and he's on the radio a lot

I never see Lavar in anything. Ray Lewis is in almost every football ad, Sapp is in a lot to. I think he could be making a lot more money, but I wonder if anyone has considered that his agent might be preventing him from getting as much as he could!!! Imagine if he had trading cards and jerseys all these years.

I think the whole list was just in SI. I saw the top 10 on cnn.com.

Also, LaVar was on some kind of home makeover show on TLC. My wife flipped out when she saw him and called me in from the other room.
His relative obscurity may have a bit to do with his relatively "clean" public record. I think you have to be implicated in a murder to become a truly popular linebacker. LaVar should run right out and assault a cabbie or a parking lot attendant and then claim that they had made a disparaging comment about his lack of endorsements... In a couple of months he can be the new Body Armour spokesman!!!
