Ok so this year he's 8/10, his career average. Again, he's not a very good kicker so that's part of the where the "hate" comes from.

Aside from that I just think Quinn is aggressive on fourth downs regardless of who his kicker is.

I have emotionally calmed down from the 4th down assertiveness. I was definitely annoyed when we could've made it 17-16. If he is super assertive on 4th down in the Dan Bowl so be it. I imagine as the team becomes more complete and competitive in future years, he will probably be more judicial about it.

Analytics said go for it in all of these instances (according to the graphics displayed during the broadcast). Dan Quinn and Adam Peters are all about the analytics. Don't see this changing any time soon.

Be interesting to know what criteria go into the analytics (I work in a closely related area). Presumably kicker success rate must be a factor as well as defensive effectiveness and time remaining.

another factor has to be the score; with our swiss cheese defense getting 3 in a lot situations is as good as getting zero; especially late in the game

Cut Tress Way and the FG kicker. Apparently the analytics say never kick a football under any circumstances. 2 extra roster spots available for other positions where depth can be needed.

I think with Lattimore, he's probably tilting on the downside of this career. The Saints saw that and got what they could. I don't think all of a sudden he's going to start playing 17 games at 29 going into next year. Just hoping they can get 12 to 13 games out of him where he's playing good football. Right now he's basically St Juste.

When you told me you were going I forgot the the game was in Tampa. That's some serious commitment. Probably makes it even sweeter.

I don't think the Saints trading him has anything to do with his capability, it's all cap issues. Let's see how he sees out the season and starts camp before we start writing him off. And he's certainly not BSJ at this point, who's now not even #3 on the depth chart. He was relatively cheap and his contract isn't the albatross for us it was for the Saints. If he's 90-95% the rest of the season he's better than anybody else in the CB room who's 100%

Agreed. I think (or hope) that Lattimore just needs to get comfortable with the defense and develop chemistry with all other DBs.

Re: Playoff Victory - Postgame Thread

Worth noting the other benefit the coaches and D having faith in Lattimore gives; it frees up the S's to do their thing instead of worrying about the WR BSJ is covering so much. That has to open up the D playbook more and possibly give the Lions some surprises.
